WSB: Biaggi Aprilia deal done?

According to reports in some Italian press this morning, Max Biaggi has just signed on the dotted line for a one year deal with Aprilia in WSB.

The Italian will contest the company's all-new RSV4 superbike in the big bike class. He will ride in a one man Biaggi-Aprilia squad in all-Italian colours (ever the patriot, Max).

The move marks the final step in a high-profile official return to the class for the Italian company. Their exit from WSB in 2001 was put down to financial problems at the time.

The news will come as a disappointment to racing legend Jorge Martinez, who has been widely tipped as pursuing Biaggi for the vacant third Kawasaki MotoGP ride next year.

As yet, there is no official notification of the deal from either Biaggi or the factory. We'll bring you any news on that the moment we have it.

Collapse of Lehman Brothers complicates F1 ownership

Lehman Brothers, the fourth biggest financial institution in the United States, has applied for bankruptcy protection with debts of around $750bn and assets worth only $639bn. The company was a victim of the US mortgage crisis which resulted in it losing 73% of its value in the first half of 2008. The slide continued in the summer and there was talk of Lehman being sold, but when talks with Barclays failed the bank was left with no choice but to seek protection from its creditors. This means that the company's 16.8% shareholding in Delta Topco, the ultimate holding company of the Formula One group, will probably be up for sale.

Lehman Brothers first became involved in F1 because of the bankruptcy of Kirch Media in 2002, when it acquired shares instead of waiting for debts to be repaid. Lehman continued to hold shares in the business until March 2006 when CVC Capital Partners bought them out, but as part of that deal Lehman had an option to buy a stake in Delta Topco, the new ownership vehicle of the Formula One business. CVC has the first option to buy the Lehman shares.

Lehman Brothers later decided to become involved as a lender to the Formula One group as well, buying some of the debts that the company had with the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Formula One group's debt to Lehman is believed to be in the region of $1.2bn. The bankruptcy may create an opportunity for the Formula One group to negotiate a discount with the Lehman administrators in exchange for a rapid payment, although that would involve borrowing more money from another lender.

How Toro Rosso beat Red Bull Racing - and the implications of the victory

Scuderia Toro Rosso's victory at Monza was a popular one, but now that the spray is settling there are going to be some questions asked about how that victory was achieved - and whether it was something that is acceptable in F1 circles. The last victory by a customer car was in Spain in 1970 when Jackie Stewart drove a March, run by Ken Tyrrell, to victory at Jarama. Only a few months ago Red Bull paid Force India around $4m to stop an arbitration claim which aimed to stop the Italian team using chassis built by Red Bull Technology, which is supplying the same chassis to Red Bull Racing.

The fact that Toro Rosso beat Red Bull Racing will be seen by many as an embarrassment for the "factory" Red Bull team, particularly as that organisation decided at the end of 2006 to switch its Ferrari engine deal to Toro Rosso as it wanted to use Renault engines in 2007. That move was logical at the time but has now backfired as it is fairly clear that a large part of the Toro Rosso victory at Monza was down to engine power. Monza is a low downforce track where horsepower is important and Toro Rosso had more horsepower than Red Bull Racing. The set-up of the cars is also part of the equation and much credit for that must go to Giorgio Ascanelli and his engineers at Toro Rosso, but it must still be noted that Ascanelli has been there for quite a time and the improvement at Toro Rossi is relatively recent. It is rumoured that Toro Rosso has been getting the latest Ferrari development engines in recent months and that would help to explain how the team managed to beat the Ferrari factory team. Although there is an engine freeze going on, teams are able to improve their engines if they apply for modifications which they can justify as being for reliability or cost reasons. The FIA accepts or rejects such requests and only those rejected are circulated to the other teams to given them an idea of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. Renault boss Flavio Briatore has made much of the fact that Renault has fallen behind the other teams by abiding by the rules, but in F1 that is no excuse. If the rules allow for improvement then there should have been improvement.

The Toro Rosso victory should make it easier for the team to find sponsorship for the future and, perhaps, a buyer for the 50% of the shares that Red Bull Dietrich Mateschitz has put up for sale. It was a bitter-sweet result for Red Bull Racing because it built the cars that won, but unfortunately did not actually win.

There are also questions about whether or not rival teams will look again at the question of arbitration. The rules about chassis supply were covered in the old Concorde Agreement, which ran out in December last year. There is supposed to be some kind of deal in place which allows teams to run customer cars this year, but only on the understanding that they would become constructors in 2010. However that agreement was designed when Toro Rosso was an also-ran, rather than a race-winning operation. All the teams will be gaining less money as a result of Vettel's victory and some could try to argue that the terms and conditions of the old Concorde Agreement are still valid until a new Concorde Agreement is in place. If they can win that argument then they can go to arbitration and in the long-term the arbitrators could rule against Toro Rosso. Given that Red Bull bought off Force India, it is fairly clear that they were not confident of winning an arbitration claim.

Hopefully it will not come to that as a surprise winner in F1 is a good thing and will do much for the popularity of the sport. Legal actions and political shenanigans do nothing to help.

The win may also have an effect on the arguments that Toro Rosso has been putting forward for the future. It wants to remain a customer in 2010 rather than being forced to invest in manufacturing. The victory in Monza will do little to help that cause, as it is likely to create more opposition to the idea from rival teams.

Vettel tops day three at Jerez

Formula 1's man of the moment Sebastian Vettel topped the Thursday times as testing continued at Jerez in preparation for the four season-closing flyaway races.

Driving for Red Bull Racing, the team to which he will move from Toro Rosso next year, Vettel clocked his fastest time in the morning before the session was put on hold by showers shortly after lunch.

Despite the high likelihood of rain at the final four races, most teams elected to stay off the slippery, newly resurfaced track – opting for an afternoon working in the garage instead.

Second fastest man Nick Heidfeld was one of the few who braved the conditions in the afternoon, hoping to find a better wet-weather set up for the BMW F1.08.

“As we might have some rain during the forthcoming races we took this opportunity to work on the car’s wet weather set-up,” said the German.

Lucas di Grassi saw no advantage in running his Renault R28 in the wet, completing just 36 laps and setting the third fastest time, albeit a full second slower than Vettel.

The GP2 ace has been testing new developments for Renault all week as the team signs off its last few developments for the 2008 season.

“I’m getting used to the car and the more laps I do, the more confident I feel,” he said.

“We didn’t do any running in the wet, but we were able to test a few more parts this morning that the team will be taking to the race next week.”

McLaren was fourth fastest with Pedro de la Rosa taking over from Gary Paffett in the MP4-23.

Once again the Woking-based team focused on aero developments for the final four races as well as continuing work on its KERS unit for next year.

Alexander Wurz was fifth fastest in the Honda, with the Japanese team’s former race driver Takuma Sato not far off in the Toro Rosso.

Sato is the second new driver to take the wheel of the STR3 this week, as he and Sebastien Buemi take part in a shoot-out for a chance to drive for Toro Rosso next year.

Sato’s track time was restricted by the rain as the team was reluctant to run an all-new driver and car line-up in the treacherous conditions.

Nevertheless, Sato said he was pleased with his time in the car.

“By the end of the morning we began timed runs, so I could really feel the car and I started to enjoy the laps,” said the Japanese driver.

“Unfortunately in the afternoon it started to rain so we had to stop.

"That was a great shame, as I was looking forward to proper running in the afternoon.

“Although I couldn’t complete the day due to the weather conditions, I really enjoyed driving the STR3.”

Toyota’s test driver Kamui Kobayashi was seventh fastest ahead of Kazuki Nakajima who continued the development of Williams’s 2008/09 interim car, the FW30B.

The British team again ran a 2009 rear wing and diffuser, sized to the dimensions outlined in next year’s specifications.

According to the ’09 rulebook the rear wing must be no wider than 800mm, although it can be deeper and mounted higher, and the diffuser must be further back as well as shallower.

Meanwhile Ferrari again had the test track of Mugello to itself, with world champion Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel of the F2008 and setting a best time of 1m21.079s.

Felipe Massa will take over at the Tuscan circuit on Friday, having been at Ferrari’s other test track, Fiorano, today completing shakedowns of the cars that Ferrari will take to Singapore.

Chelsea star admits Mourinho desire

Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has admitted that he would be interested in joining former boss Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan.

Carvalho, 30, said: "I have heard a few comments"

"It's a club matter and I am focused on playing for the national team so we will see after.

"But I would love to be coached by Mourinho again. The majority of the trophies I have won were won with Mourinho.

"At Chelsea, there is a new cycle happening so we will see what happens. I have a contract with Chelsea.

"But you never know - sometimes a challenge is good for a player. I will speak with Peter Kenyon after the tournament."

Lippi returns to lead Azzurri again

Veteran tactician Marcello Lippi has been re-appointed as the national coach of Italy following the sacking of Roberto Donadoni.

A statement on the Italian Football Federation official website read: "Marcello Lippi returns as the leader of the Italian national team,"

"The president of the FIGC, Giancarlo Abete, named the new technical commissioner of the Azzurri as a replacement of Roberto Donadoni.

"Lippi will be presented on Tuesday July 1 at a press conference in Rome."

Outgoing boss Donadoni said: "I'm upset, I'm not going to hide that,"

"But I would do it all again. I'm happy with what the players did. They gave their all. It has been a marvellous experience.

"The evaluation of my time in charge will be done on the two years, but you know that when you participate at a tournament like the Euros everything can be decided on incidents."

Inter Milan have Muntari sent off, but Mourinho still not happy after win

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho saw his team come back from being a goal behind to win 2-1, despite having Sulley Muntari sent off, but feels his team should have won much more easily.

"In the first half, when both teams had 11 men on the pitch, we played very well," the ex-Chelsea coach said after the game.

"We went behind, but the team reacted well and scored a good goal. Catania played their game, although the right result would have been 3-1, 4-1 or 5-1 to us.

"These are three important points for us, especially as Maicon had a great game despite only returning from Brazil yesterday and I didn’t think Patrick Vieira could handle more than an hour."

Muntari was upset with the way that Catania's Giacomo Tedesco went down, which was the cause of his red card, and he slammed the Italian for play-acting. He said: "The referee saw that I lifted my arm and he’s right in that I should not do that, but I was just protecting the ball,"

"Having said that, not even a child would’ve fallen in such a dramatic fashion. He went to ground as if struck by Mohammed Ali!"

Mourinho will take Inter to Greece this midweek to play Panathiniakos in his first Champions League group match, as he tries to take Inter further than he went with Chelsea.

AC Milan trio on road to recovery

The Milan medical team have given an update on the condition of injured stars Pippo Inzaghi, Alessandro Nesta and Gennaro Gattuso.

Inzaghi picked up an injury during the Rossoneri's friendly defeat against Lugano on Wednesday.

The veteran hitman limped off after just 17 minutes with a muscular problem, which has now been diagnosed as a first-degree muscle tear.

“Inzaghi is healing and we are evaluating his progress on a day-to-day basis,” Milan medic Massimo Menara revealed.

Menara also gave the latest on former Azzurri defender Nesta, who is yet to feature this term.

“Nesta is progressing but he isn't ready to return yet,” he stressed. “We are hoping that he will be able to return in the middle of October.”

Gattuso suffered a freak fracture in his wrist after falling into the dug-out during a friendly game with the Azzurri.

“Rino is recovering well,” Menara insisted. “He is undergoing a course of physiotherapy and he started running again today.”

AC Milan 1:2 Bologna - match report

Ronaldinho impressed on his Serie A debut, but it was Bologna who emerged with a 2-1 victory at San Siro!

All eyes were on Dinho's Serie A debut and his first game in a Rossoneri jersey, as he missed pre-season friendlies so he could pick up a bronze medal with Brazil at the Olympics. Carlo Ancelotti also had Andriy Shevchenko back two years after the £30m move to Chelsea, but Kaka, Marco Borriello, Philippe Senderos, Gennaro Gattuso and Alessandro Nesta were injured with Daniele Bonera banned.

It was a tough task for newly promoted Bologna, who nonetheless wanted to rain on Milan's parade on their return to Serie A after three years. Curiously, they had won their last trip to San Siro 1-0 in January 2005.

This was effectively the first time the new Rossoneri squad had played together in the Christmas Tree formation and the atmosphere at a sold-out San Siro was electric. In the opening minute, Ronaldinho threaded through for Pippo Inzaghi and a defender had to rush to clear.

Dinho drilled wide, but Bologna were dangerous too with Christian Abbiati smothering Martins Adailton's angled drive. Ronaldinho went to head a Clarence Seedorf cross when Inzaghi was better positioned straight behind him.

However, it was another summer signing who scored the first goal at San siro - Bologna's Marco Di Vaio. It was a well-worked move, finalised by a Di Vaio angled drive into the far corner from 10 yards.

Inzaghi sprung the offside trap on Andrea Pirlo's ball over the top, but couldn't get enough power to the ball. Seedorf's first touch let him down on Dinho's pass on the counter-attack, then the Brazilian headed a Gianluca Zambrotta cross straight at Francesco Antonioli.

On 35 minutes Inzaghi combined delightfully with Ronaldinho, but when the Italian went round Antonioli the angle was too narrow and he could only hit the side-netting.

Antonioli parried a Mathieu Flamini screamer from 30 metres, but there was a lot of space at the back and Di Vaio drilled another angled drive just wide on the counter.

However, Milan recovered from that scare to equalise. Ronaldinho gathered a Pirlo cross-field pass and floated the ball to the back post for Massimo Ambrosini's towering header from six yards.

Shevchenko made his comeback two years after the £30m move to Chelsea and was given a warm welcome by the fans. He replaced Marek Jankulovski, moving Flamini to right-back in a very attack-minded 4-2-3-1 formation.

Ronaldinho and Zambrotta combined down the left flank and a pass to the back post was inches away from Seedorf for a tap-in. The new system was working well and Dinho's cheeky dribble in the box set up Inzaghi to force a point-blank save from Antonioli.

Another Dinho chipped pass was this time just wide for Shevchenko. A great move saw Pirlo's long pass find Ronaldinho to cross for Sheva and Antonioli came racing out to narrow the angle and turn the ball past the upright with his foot.

Inzaghi nodded another Ronaldinho cross straight at the Bologna goalkeeper, but for all the pressure Bologna were still in it and Di Vaio skimmed the crossbar with a fierce effort.

Alexandre Pato replaced Inzaghi and created a great chance for Sheva that was closed down by Moras. Milan wanted a penalty for a handling offence, but the referee waved play on.

Incredibly, Bologna sustained the pressure and struck again on the counter to restore their lead! Valiani unleashed a fearsome right-foot strike into the near top corner despite Abbiati getting a fingertip to it! Milan were stunned, as they had dominated the second half and peppered the Rossoblu box with chances.
Milan: Abbiati; Zambrotta, Maldini, Kaladze, Jankulovski (Shevchenko 46); Flamini, Pirlo, Ambrosini (Emerson 85); Seedorf, Ronaldinho; Inzaghi (Pato 69)

Bologna: Antonioli; Zenoni, Moras, Terzi, Bombardini (Castellini 88); Mingazzini, Volpi; Adailton (Marazzina 60), Amoroso (Mudingayi 60), Valiani; Di Vaio

Eto'o expects Barca upturn

Samuel Eto'o believes Barcelona have put their disappointing start to the new season behind them following their Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon.

The Blaugrana ended their two-game domestic winless streak with a 3-1 group stage victory over the Portuguese side at the Camp Nou and afterwards Eto'o predicted an immediate upturn in fortunes.

"We knew that our bad luck would not continue, especially since we have been playing so well," said the Cameroon striker.

"But I am only worried if we do not create goalscoring chances.

"As long as we have chances, we only need to sharpen our finishing and the goals will come."

Siberian Shamanism

Author: Anna Maria
Siberian shamanism - roots of happiness and love. It is an ancient tradition, religion, basis of all young religions, sciences and mysticism. There exist now very many different forms of shamanism. Investigators of institutes, who study ancient cultures in Irkutsk, found the traces of Siberian shamanism in Australian, African, American, Tibetan shamanism and in many religions.

Siberian shamanism is more than 40.000 years old. During all this time, shamans have guarded the knowledge of human happiness and knowledge of the connection of humans and Divine Power. These shamans live in Siberia and are protected by spirits of this place.

The spirits of Siberia guarded this knowledge for a long time and Altai Chi, great Siberian shaman, transmits this knowledge to the humanity now.

Siberian shamanism is the last hope in actual spiritual world. Many people, as Nostradamos, clairvoyant from Bulgaria Vanga, Elena Blavatskaya and Nicolai Rerich, who could foresee the future, predicted this situation.

The knowledge of Siberian shamanism helps you to receive a profound sensation of happiness that will free you from all problems:

Restore and maintain your health, immunity and good inner state.

Find and choose your ideal partner or rejuvenate your relationship.

Learn the art of relations with your partner and with people who surround you, your children, friends, work-mates ect.

Learn how to maintain your good image, how to have charm and be attractive.

Learn how to better your financial state.

Learn to diagnose and heal people with different problems.

Develop in yourself such super-abilities as clairvoyance, intuition, prediction, telepathy, hypnosis, astral journeys, levitation, ect.

Understand the law of Karma and the organization of Universe.

Find your destiny and open your divine individuality, your highest purpose.

Be as a super-human in your social life, as a channel of Divine Power on Earth, as a channel between God and humans.

Here you can read one interview with one shaman of the Golden Altai Academy School:

Interviewer: What made you study shamanism?

Shaman: I was disappointed in my medical studies, because doctors very often could not heal people. I couldn't understand why. I asked myself that is there any other possibility to help people, and that's why I started to learn psychology and magic. I used in my work many eccentric techniques and I tried to reach other doctors to talk and teach them. But I was misunderstood.

One day I saw in a newspaper one advertisement about one meeting on predictions of Nostradamus. I went and I was inspired to go Altai and Siberia. My trip to Alai was surprising. It gave me such strong impressions that I hadn't had already for years. My eyes opened and absorbed the power of the Earth in spring, roses coming out - it was so fresh... - tops of powerful mountains touching the sky and hiding in white clouds, which competed with the whiteness of the snow that was covering mountains. Powerful and furious river Katun gathered its healing waters, flowing over rocks and fields, creating crystal lakes and brilliant waterfalls. In everywhere grew magnificent cedars. It was the place where I met the great master, wise man Altai Chi. He explained me how to help people without operations and medicines. But it was not sufficient to heal people from their bodily illnesses. People needed also to change their life-style. They had to change their food, respiration, activity, thoughts and emotions. The great master told me that I needed to teach people, who would in turn teach more other people.

The meeting with the Shaman Altai Chi changed my life. I got free from many chronic illnesses that had tormented me. He opened my super-abilities with which I have had the chance to help many people, giving them relaxation, health, success in their personal matters and in business, harmony in relationships and happiness. Altai Chi has helped me to find the supreme happiness and good fortune.

Interviewer: Altai Chi seems to be very interesting person, how is he?

Shaman: I can tell you only a little about him, because his mind is on very much higher level than mine. According to esoteric laws, a man with a less developed mind should not talk about higher man, who has more developed mind. Great master lives in a sacred place in forest in Altaian Mountains in Siberia and he travels constantly. There are very high mountains and continuous forests with strong trees and with many rivers, where the water is so clear that it is possible to drink it.

His favorite place is one cave covered by rock, behind bushes and many trees. The entrance has a small hole, where your body can enter easily. Then there is one angle, then the second and after the third angle the cave opens. There are magnificent estalagmias. Ceiling of the cave is incredibly dry and in distant corner there is a small brook that flows downwards with melodious drops, creating cool lake on the floor. Air in the cave is full of peace, bliss and power. Being in this cave, a person connects with his soul.

Down the mountains there are hamlets with small simple houses. People, who come to Altai to meet the teacher, live in these hamlets and wait to meet the teacher.

I myself meet God-wise man Altai Chi several times a year. I can only speak about him, that I have seen how people, who are near him, change and heal very fast. Their aura becomes brighter; the structure of their skin rejuvenates. People begin also to see everything differently. They do not worry anymore about small problems, but begin to live more consciously for the highest purpose. They become more successful, and not only their inner world changes, but also their relationships with partners.

Interviewer: Altai Chi then only sits in his cave and heals some persons or manages the teaching in Golden Altai Academy School?

Shaman: Our organization is founded by Altai Chi, and he manages Golden Altai Academy School. The mission of the School is to combine new knowledge with ancient teachings in the way that we could help people in actual frankness of the world and that its energies would maintain in peace, happiness, love and freedom.

Thanks to the genius Altai Chi, from 1989, Golden Altai Academy School is already known in the world as one of the best. Altai Chi prefers to be near his places of power in Altaian Mountains, but his teaching are being transmitted all over the world, and his mind rises high towards the Cosmos in order to find our new information for us and transmit it to his students and to the people in all the world.

Some of us are very fortunate to be traveling masters, transmitting this knowledge in whole world. Other shamans stay in their communities, teaching, healing, consulting and protecting their students. Other groups of shamans concentrate their energy in prayers for our mission, protecting the health of the planet Earth, giving their part to create better future of humanity and heal the planet. All they work under the guidance of Altai Chi.

Interviewer: You talk about protecting Earth and about better future of humanity. Is it some kind of green-peace movement? Why the Earth need the protection of shamans?

Shaman: There are good reasons to be worried about the actual situation on Earth, because although, we have technical progress, but people are still on a very low level of spiritual development. Modern humans have no control over their psyche, mind or energy that results in numerous psychological illnesses, which can be healed quickly with the ancient Slavic method.

There are many people with limited vision of their multiple levels of being and living, as one small difficult situation can lead to death, stress, heart attacks.

The planet itself is under attacks, such as by living organism, infections, invasions and abuse. Our responsibility is to defend it against infections and invasions, meanwhile we teach people to stop the excess use and abuse.

The Akha Hill Tribe in Chiang Rai Thailand

Author: Andy Burrows

For many visitors to Northern Thailand, a trip to visit one of the region's colourful hill tribes is a necessity. These minority groups have their photos splashed across tourist brochures and websites, adding to their appeal and intrigue. Some of the villages receive tour buses and trekking groups on a regular basis as the financial benefits outweigh any concerns over privacy.

The harsh reality of the situation is that most of these hill tribes have been marginalised and live in abject poverty. Few of them are officially recognised by the Thai authorities and they exist without any ID cards or rights. For the many tourists who are happy to get a glimpse of their rural lifestyles, they are often completely unaware of the hardship and suffering they endure.

There are over half a dozen different tribes in the area, and they are all unique in their own way with different languages, dress and customs. Among the poorest of these tribes are the Akha and consequently, they receive special attention from charity workers, anthropologists and missionary groups. They are known to the Thais by the somewhat derogatory name Egor and are usually considered worthless peasants at the bottom of the social scale.

Their origins can be traced back over a century to Tibet, before they migrated to Burma, Laos and Thailand, along with other hill tribes. Over the last two decades, they have been continually persecuted by the military regime in Burma, forcing them to flee and settle in Thailand as refugees. They remain stateless despite having been here so long, and are often exploited by corrupt officials and drug barons in the area.

The Akhas use a Lolo-Burmese language, although it has never been written down, making it difficult to trace its history accurately. Any known history has been passed on by mouth over the generations. Civil rights groups have recently created a system to document their language.

There are over 300,000 Akhas living in Thailand with the majority of the villages located in the province of Chiang Rai. They are usually subsistence farmers who grow vegetables and rice on the mountainsides, and raise pigs and chickens. The men often work in surrounding rice and tobacco fields, starting early in the morning and continuing until the last light. They receive about 100 baht per day, which is considerably less than the national minimum wage.

Their villages are often in remote locations and can be difficult to reach, meaning that the Akhas seldom leave their immediate area. Running water is still not available to all of the tribes so women are sometimes charged with the task of filling up large containers from a nearby well several times a day. A few villages have been fortunate enough to be electrified resulting in a marked improvement in living conditions. Entire families live in a simple houses constructed from bamboo and grass.

Missionary groups operating in the area have also increased problems of a religious nature. Their assistance is often dependant on certain conditions as they try to convert the Akhas to Christianity. Their methods are controversial, although the missionaries would say that they can help to improve their living conditions and future opportunities.

Questionable practices such as removing children from their family homes to give them a more civilised upbringing, has led to much criticism. The religion of the Akha people is closely tied to animism, with a strong focus on honouring ancestors and their parents, and a belief in both good and bad spirits. The presence of certain Christian groups has led to an erosion of their unique and fascinating culture.

The lack of ID cards has not stopped some of the women abandoning their villages in search of work in the big cities. Many end up working in prostitution or poorly paid massage parlours. Unfortunately, the young men often suffer a worse fate as they became smugglers for powerful drug barons. During the government crackdown on drugs in 2003, over 2,000 people were killed, many of them Akha.

The future for the Akha hilltribe is hard to predict as tourism continues to thrive in the area and the Thai authorities overlook them. Their unique culture is slowly fading away as the tour groups traipse through the villages and disturb their normal lives.

These tribes refuses to give up their pure traditions up to now, they are proud of who they are. The Hadzabe are ones of the smallest tribe in Tanzania, they about 200 families and the Datoga are about 4000 families in the whole of Tanzania.

These tribes are found in Northern Tanzania along lake Eyasi. Their are language resembles the click language of other bush-men further south of the Kalahari Desert. Their small population , was seriously threatened especially in 1974 when the Government tried to build a settlement for them and move them from their original environment (Caves and the bushes) Most of these people and their children have never seen a doctor or school. The bush provides everything they need including traditional education and traditional healers.

Ethnic Groups in South East Asia

Author: Alex Aziz

There are many different ethnic groups in South East Asia originating from Myanmar (Burma), Tibet and various provinces in China, all with various different customs, traditions and beliefs which can be greatly admired and respected. Even the main groups can be sub divided further giving hundreds of different groups across Asia. There are some agencies still trying to document all these ethnic groups.

Karen
The Karen are a very large hilltribe ethnic group mainly found in Northern Thailand and account for almost half of the entire hilltribe population. They live in many provinces along the Western border of Thailand and also further into Thailand. The Karen tribe originate from Burma and the Thai-Burmese border area. Over the past century they have moved further into Thailand to avoid political unrest. The Karen groups include the Padong and the famous “longneck” ethnic group symbolised by the tight bronze rings they wear around their necks. Karen settlements are normally at a lower altitude than other hilltribes - approximately 500m above sea level and often reside in valley areas. They don’t often move location and many villages have been in the same place for hundreds of years. They are skilled at weaving, with the women weaving sarongs and dresses while the men weave large baskets for rice or cloths storage.

Akha
The Akha are believed to originate from Southern China or Tibet. Linguistically they belong to the Tibeto-Burman group and they are related to the Lolo tribes of Yunnan (Southern China). The Hani tribe in Yunnan province is very similar to the Akha. Most Akha are to be found in Northern Burma, North Western Laos and Northern Thailand; which would support the view that they migrated southwards from Tibet and China. Different Akha groups can be distinguished by their costumes and headdress with different tribes having different patterns on their coats and different shaped headdresses.
The Akha prefer to live at an elevation of over 1,000m. They practice shifting cultivation growing dry rice, corn, vegetables, peppers and beans and also rearing of livestock. They believe in all kinds of spirits and village gates can be found at the entrance to every Akha village at both ends which is said to protect the village from the many spirits outside. In one house you will find the whole extended family with a divide separating the men and women. The husband is monogamous and married couples with also have a smaller house apart from the large family house.

Hmong
The Hmong groups are found scattered throughout many countries, including China, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand and can also be divided into sub groups, which can be defined by their different styles and colours of clothing. Hmong families are male dominated and after marriage the bride moves into the husband’s house, the Hmong are also known to have several wives. They prefer to set their villages at high altitudes of 1000-1200m and practice shifting cultivation, moving great distances looking for better land. They grow mainly dry rice and corn and vegetables and they worship their ancestors and many other spirits. The village priest and shaman are very important in the village and their ceremonies bare some resemblance to the Chinese culture.

Lisu
The Lisu are thought to originate from Southern China (and probably from Tibet before that), they first came to Thailand and Myanmar approximately 80 years ago and can further be divided into two smaller groups. They are part of the Tibeto-Burman linguistic group and their culture is closely related to that of the Chinese. At Chinese New Year they also celebrate their New Year making offerings to ancestor spirits and their village guardian spirit. The women dress in stunning costumes such as coloured robes with thin coloured stripes around the neck and upper arms. When a Lisu man marries there is always a dowry to be paid for the bride, marriage are normally allowed only outside the clan and they practise monogamy.

Lahu
The Lahu are believed to have originated in Tibet and then migrated down to China, Laos, Burma and Thailand. They can be further sub-divided into many groups and belong to the Tibeto-Burman linguistic group, amongst them the dialect of the Lahu Na is recognised as standard. Lahu when translated means hunter and indeed they are great hunters, with the men going off into the forest sometimes for many days at a time to hunt. Clan doesn’t play a large part in Lahu villages and the headman has the most power with rules of the village being decided through a consensus. The Lahu like to stay mobile and if one doesn’t like the rules of one village they would easily move and find another, this isn’t seen as a problem as the villages are all considered as one extended family.

Yao
The Yao (Mien) are very similar to the Hmong and form part of the Austro-Thai linguistic group. Their culture is similar to the Chinese celebrating the same New Year and they use Chinese characters to record traditional songs and legends. Many Yao can also speak Yunnanese or Mandarin, they are found in Guangxi, Yunnan and Guangdong provinces of China, as well as Vietnam, Laos, Burma and Thailand.
Yao households normally consist of an extended family and like the Hmong; Yao men are allowed to take more than one wife. In the past, the Yao were highly mobile, always on the lookout for better land. The Yao set their villages at a high altitude and will not be situated beneath another tribe. The women are skilled at needlework and embroidery, with the men being great silversmiths again like the Hmong.

Katu
The Katu group is found mainly in Vietnam but also across the Laos border in the Provinces of Sekong and Savanakhet, they live in mountainous areas and belong to the Mon-Khmer division of the Austro-Asiatic family. Women bear responsibility for the household and the upbringing of the children, and for much of the agrarian work. Men are the decision-makers and have the authority in the house hold.

Alak and Laven
Again part of the Mon-Khmer branch of the Austro-Asiatic family. They live on the mountain slopes at an altitude of around 600m. They practice slash and burn agriculture, and the Alak group can be found in the south of Laos around the Bolaven plateau which straddles straddling the provinces of Attapeu, Champasak, Sekong and Salavan.

Time up for Golden Balls

By Stephen Darwin

It's taken a while, but at long last it actually feels good to be English again. Capello and his team made the considerably daunting task of beating Croatia in Zagreb look like a proverbial stroll in the park and young Theo proved that there is actually more to his game than just electrifying pace. I must admit I really didn’t feel Walcott had enough in his locker to succeed on the international stage although as well as silencing his numerous critics, the Arsenal man may just have brought an end to the international career of one of England’s finest wide midfielders.

I’m talking about David Beckham ofcourse and you may feel I’m on another galaxy by saying this but surely it’s time for Capello to call time on the former Manchester United midfielder’s career in an England shirt. With Theo Walcott and David Bentley, England have two accomplished attacking wide players who are both relatively young and full of potential. By the time the World Cup comes around in 2010, Beckham will be 35-years-old and it therefore makes sense for England’s Italian manager to look to the future to ensure we have a team that is ready to challenge in South Africa and beyond.

Beckham’s ability to deliver the perfect cross is a noticeably powerful weapon to have in the England armoury but realistically he is only a short term solution and is the ability to cross a ball really enough in this day and age? In my opinion, Capello needs to continue the policy of blooding England’s young hopefuls, like Walcott, in an attempt to not only build up the confidence of the players themselves but to also build up the confidence that the fans have in their ability to perform.

Talking about confidence, there is no better example of a player that thrives on it than Walcott. Arsene Wenger clearly has a great deal of faith in Theo’s ability and the 19-year-old’s heroics last night will go further to convincing the Arsenal boss that the former Southampton star is worthy of a place in the Gunners starting eleven. If Walcott can nail down a regular position in the Arsenal team over the next couple of years, he will have self belief in abundance and we may just have one of the most exciting talents in world football donning the famous Three Lions shirt come South Africa 2010.

To conclude, although I can’t admit that England’s latest performance was pleasing on the eye, my ears most certainly enjoyed what they were hearing as the action unfolded last night – and Walcott played his part quite remarkably. Capello’s decision to throw the teenager in at the deep end was ambitious and somewhat of a gamble but it has undoubtedly paid dividends for the Italian thus far. 105 caps is a terrific innings for David Beckham although is it fair to say that his England career is really coming to an abrupt end? And although Walcott was magnificent against the ten men of Croatia, is it conceivable to suggest that the 19-year-old is capable of consistently replicating the magic he produced last night?

Milan slump as Euro giants slumber

AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid have collected 17 European titles between them, but their glorious records looked like ancient history at the weekend.

AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid have collected 17 European titles between them, but their glorious records looked like ancient history at the weekend.
Milan, seven-time European champions, slumped to second from bottom of Serie A after losing their second successive league game to pile the pressure on long-serving coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Even the silky skills of superstars Kaka, Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko were unable to prevent a 2-0 loss at Genoa as Milan recorded their worst start to a league season since 1986.
Giuseppe Sculli opened the scoring for Genoa Diego Milito adding an injury-time penalty to give the home side their first win against Milan on their own soil since 1983.
Milan are now second from bottom, propped up by Cagliari, who are also without a point.
After the match Milan general manager Adriano Galliani issued a warning to Ancelotti.
"He doesn't risk the sack, but he'd better stop losing," said Galliani.
Ancelotti, who has been at the helm for eight seasons but who failed to secure a spot in the Champions League, said he was confident he could solve the problems.
"We have time to fix things and I am certain that we will. This is my Milan," he said.
Lazio lead the way in Italy with a second win in two games secured with a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria with Mauro Zarate and Goran Pandev on target.
Atalanta also have a 100-percent record and are second following a 1-0 win at Bologna with Tiberio Guarente grabbing the only goal.
In Spain, Barcelona are sixth from bottom with just a point from two games following their 1-1 draw at home to Racing Santander, a result which marked their worst league start in 35 years.
Argentine winger Lionel Messi converted a 70th-minute penalty, but Jonathan Pereira equalised six minutes later to deny the hosts victory.
One point from six is a woeful start for coach Pep Guardiola who will expect better when Barcelona start their Champions League campaign on Tuesday with a home match against Sporting Lisbon.
"I can't criticise the players as I am very happy with their attitude," said Guardiola.
"Football is the only sport where you can win without having any real shots on goal. Our opponents (Numancia in the first game and Racing) have hardly threatened our goal but have still taken five points from us."
Espanyol, who won 1-0 at Recreativo, lead the way in Spain with a maximum six points from two games.
But Real Madrid, eight-time European champions, endured a rollercoaster ride before beating newly-promoted Numancia, who twice took the lead at the Bernabau, 4-3.
"The games after the international break are the most difficult," said Real coach Bernd Schuster.
"They (Numancia) were always going to cause trouble for us as they had two weeks to prepare for this match and had beaten Barcelona."
In France, seven-time champions Lyon lead by two points from Marseille after a fortunate 3-2 win over Nice.
Lyon needed a late penalty to secure the three points, but match referee Jean-Charles Cailleux admitted on Sunday he had blundered in the decision which allowed Karim Benzema to score in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Alonso delighted with points boost

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso was delighted on Sunday after a gamble on switching tyres paid off with a good points finish for Renault at the rain-hit Italian Grand Prix.
Alonso came home fourth after passing a series of drivers in the final laps and the points hoisted Renault up alongside rivals Toyota in the constructors championship.

Both now have 41 with four races remaining.

He said: "I am very happy. The result is very good because Monza was supposed to be the race that we were looking forward to the least.

"But we made up the five points that we needed in our championship fight, which is really rewarding and a big source of motivation for the rest of the season.

"I am now curious to see what awaits us in Singapore."

Alonso would not be drawn on his plans for the future but it is known that he is biding his time before finalising his thoughts for 2009.

With no seats remaining available at Ferrari, or McLaren Mercedes, he has been linked with a possible move to BMW Sauber, but may even yet stay with Renault.

His team-mate Brazilian Nelson Piquet suffered a less fortunate race. After charging through the field from the back of the grid, he finished 10th.

"I had a good fight through the pack today and my pace was good considering the fuel load that I started with, which is quite satisfying," said Piquet.

"But unfortunately I finished outside the points, but I think that everything was decided in qualifying. I want to remain positive and will now concentrate on preparing for the next race in Singapore."

Solid pneumatic, Bridgestone debut for Pedrosa

Dani Pedrosa was encouraged with an eighth place finish on his debut with the pneumatic-valve Bridgestone-shod Honda, although he admits the adverse weather at Indianapolis didn't help his cause.

With a new specification Honda and different tyres beneath him, Pedrosa faced a steep learning curve around the American circuit, but ran in the upper echelons of the mid-field in the early stages of the race as he adopted a cautious approach.

Gaining in confidence as the race wore on and the conditions improved, Pedrosa briefly worked his way up to sixth, but would eventually come off worse in a tussle between Sylvain Guintoli and Chris Vermeulen.

Furthermore, the return of Hurricane Ike, one that caused horrendous weather conditions with around ten laps remaining, meant the race was ended prematurely and Pedrosa had to settle for eighth.

Nonetheless, despite the somewhat average finishing position, Pedrosa was pleased with the result given his lack of miles on the bike, especially in conditions such as those.

“That was a very tough race. I started quite cautiously and then I began to push harder, but in the mid-stages I wasn't fast enough and I lost some time. Towards the end I found a good pace. Four or five laps before Race Direction stopped the race, the wind got really strong and there was a lot of dirt and debris getting blown on to the track.

“Finishing eighth is not a good result for me, but considering the conditions I couldn't do any better. All in all, it has been an important weekend for us. We have gained a lot of experience in both wet and dry conditions which will help in the future, so we will keep working hard. The tyres worked well today and I'm feeling confident for the next race at Motegi in two weeks time.”

Stoner leads dry Indy warm-up

By Lynne Huntting

Sunday morning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for race day of the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP started out sunny with mostly blue skies, a breeze and some clouds.

The sunrise was a beautiful red vista over the few clouds on the horizon. What was that old saying.... red skies in the morning, sailors take warning. It was beautiful and balmy on the way to the track, and sunglasses were needed. Always a good sign.

By the time the 125cc and 250cc motorcycle warm-ups were completed, the breeze had picked up and some clouds were moving in from the west. But it was dry when MotoGP took to the track for its 25-minute warm-up. Some of those watching the forecasts say the storm (Hurricane Ike's leftovers) could go north and east and maybe hit the track/area just a bit.

As required by new FIM regulations this year, the riders have to practice starts at the beginning of the session, before coming round through pit lane to start running laps. The riders all went out on slicks.

The session ended with Ducati's reigning world champion Casey Stoner fastest at 1min 41.553secs. Yamaha's pole sitter and world championship leader Valentino Rossi was second with 1min 42.161secs, with Ducati's Toni Elias completing the top three.

Rossi and fourth fastest Shinya Nakano (San Carlo Honda Gresini) are the only two riders across all three FIM classes to have scored points in every race this year.

Other leaders in the session included Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda) and rookie Andrea Dovizioso (JiR Team Scot MotoGP). So far in his first MotoGP season, he has only twice not finished in the top ten. One was an eleventh place finish and one was a DNF crash.

Kawasaki's Anthony West was again the slowest rider.

The local newspaper estimated Saturday's crowd at 50,000 and has all along predicted crowds upwards of 100,000 for Sunday. While the front straight grandstands don't appear to be that occupied, all the grandstands looking down on the twisty bits are full, and there are a lot of fans walking around everywhere.

Guintoli's turn to fly the flag for Alice

Sylvain Guintoli raised his stock with one of his best MotoGP performances of the season after climbing to seventh place at a rain-soaked Indianapolis.

Although not quite as good as his sixth place finish in similarly treacherous conditions in Germany, Guintoli had to recover from a 14th place grid position, as well as a poor start, to climb past Dani Pedrosa in the closing stages and snatch arguably his strongest result in a race of no retirements.

Still, the Frenchman, who looks increasingly likely to be out of a ride for 2009, wasn't entirely satisfied with his performance, blaming the bad start for preventing him from finishing even better.

“Unfortunately I didn't start well. I took too much time to warm up the new tyres but when I found a good feeling I have done a good comeback. If I would have started better I could have surely finish in a better position. I am anyway satisfied because I come from a race, in Misano, where I didn't go so well and now I found back a good feeling with the bike. I hope to be able to improve even more in the last four races.”

In-form Alice Ducati team-mate Toni Elias, meanwhile, couldn't match his podium-winning exploits from Brno and Misano, but still came away with a solid 12th place finish, a result that lifts him into the top ten overall.

“I can remain positive because we have improved with this sort of track conditions. Surely the twelfth position isn't the best but it went better than the previous occasions. A pity the race wasn't dry: this morning during the warm up I felt really good and I could have fought with Valentino and Casey for the first three positions. I remain anyway trustful, we will surely have another possibility to do well in the next four races.”

It was good news for the Alice as a whole too as they jumped up to sixth in the team standings ahead of their key satellite Honda rivals San Carlo Gresini.

Rossi takes red flagged Indy win

Valentino Rossi has set a new all-time record for premier-class race wins after taking his 69th 500cc/MotoGP victory at the first ever Indianapolis MotoGP on Sunday.

The 2008 world championship leader overcome local star Nicky Hayden and some appalling weather conditions before the red flags were finally shown with seven of the 28 laps to go, confirming Rossi's seventh victory of the season and fourth in a row.

The race had looked in real danger of being cancelled when the predicted rain and wind from Hurricane Ike hit the circuit shortly after midway, forcing the 125cc race to be stopped and 250cc race to be delayed until after the MotoGP event (it was later cancelled). The MotoGP riders had already warned that a repeat of Friday's flooding on the poorly drained new parts of the Indy road track would make racing impossible.

A window in the storm fortunately appeared, allowing the MotoGP race to start on time, albeit on a soaking wet track.

Rossi dropped from pole to fourth into turn one - behind Casey Stoner, Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso - with rookie Dovizioso wasting no time in passing both Hayden and Stoner to lead by the end of the first lap.

Hayden, chasing his first podium of the season, also quickly demoted future Ducati Marlboro team-mate Casey Stoner, then put his factory RC212V ahead of Dovizioso's satellite-spec machine at the end of the second lap. Nicky, from nearby Kentucky, has done much to promote the Indy event and his return to the front of a MotoGP race was greeted with a cheer by the soaking trackside fans.

Rossi overtook reigning world champion Stoner soon after, with team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and fellow Italian Dovizioso falling victim to the #46 by lap six. Only Hayden remained ahead and Valentino soon arrived on the 2006 world champion's rear wheel.

Hayden's pneumatic-valve Honda proved a potent force along the straights, and Rossi had made the occasional error whilst racing with the #69 - then dropped away slightly when heavy rain returned on lap eleven.
