McAfee Fake Alert Stinger 10.2.0.207

Fake-Alert software, also called fake AV or rogue anti-virus software, is malware that masquerades as a legitimate security application. These threats employ social engineering tactics to trick users into purchasing and installing malicious products. Once installed, a system scan will run that subsequently claims that the machine is infected. Other nefarious activity is occurring in the background, including the disabling of legitimate security applications.

The Fake Alert Stinger uses “Super Scan” mode for detection and remediation targeted specifically at fake-alert threats.

Super Scan achieves the following:

Terminates malicious processes that hinder anti-virus software from running properly
Restarts the Windows Explorer process to remove any hooks created by malware to prevent re-infections
Fixes file associations and other registry-based policies that are typically altered by fake-alert threats to remain active or to prevent normal use of system tools

In summary, Super Scan brings an infected system to a state that allows anti-virus software to scan and remediate effectively.

Apple iPhone 5 'Will Have A Four Inch Screen'

Sources inside Apple's Chinese supplier Foxconn have said that a new iPhone will have a four inch - or larger - screen. Several samples of the device are already under test, says the 'reliable' source, speaking to Apple blog 9to5Mac.

The rumour would lend credibility to the idea that Apple is plotting a summer launch for its new handset. If the company is at the prototype stage already, launch could be very soon.

The final model has not been selected, but all of them are significantly different from the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. None have the 'teardrop' shape that some Apple-watchers predicted for the new model.

'The source said various sample devices are also floating around - they vary slightly from one another - so it is impossible to tell which one will be the final,' said 9to5Mac.

The four-inch screen has been one of the most persistent rumours about Apple's upcoming smartphone - and would make sense, as it would take Apple's flagship device into line with rivals such as Samsung's Galaxy S2.

The relatively modest update last year from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S means that most Apple-watchers agree that a new model is inevitable - and many point to this summer for a likely launch date.

Sources inside Apple accessory companies also say that iPad 3 will not be an overhaul of the product, with cases and other accessories at the same size as ones for iPad 2.

That would leave the stage clear for a 'big' overhaul of iPhone this summer. At an earnings call this week, chief executive Tim Cook, who replaced Apple founder Steve Jobs hinted at future gadgets, which are rumoured to include a March release of the iPad 3 and a possible iPhone update.

He said:'Apple's momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.'

And the group reported record quarterly revenues of $46.33billion (£29.7 billion), up from $26.74billion (£17.1 billion) a year earlier. The stellar results sent the shares 6 per cent or $27 higher to almost $448 today.

The company has avoided any damage from a clampdown in consumer spending and a surge in competition from smartphone manufacturers and new tablet computers, such as the November launch of Amazon's Kindle Fire

The Marco Simoncelli Foundation becomes a reality

"The Marco Simoncelli Foundation" began as an idea of Carlo Pernat (Simoncelli’s manager) and was immediately embraced by the Simoncelli family, who worked quickly to make the foundation a legal reality.

"We completed all of the paperwork in a very short time," said Paolo Simoncelli, "and we are ready to start work." The president of the foundation will be Marco’s mother Rossella, while Paolo Simoncelli’s sister Martina and Dr. Arnaldo Cappellini will sit on the board of directors. Sister Martina and girlfriend Kate, with assistance from Carlo Pernat and Paolo Beltramo (Mediaset MotoGP journalist and friend) will offer their assistance.

"We already have several initiatives underway. For example, on January 20 an event titled 'Happy Birthday Sic' will be held at the 105 Stadium in Rimini, an evening designed for fun as my son would have liked. There will be comedians from the TV show Zelig on stage and many of Simoncelli’s friends from the GP paddock are also expected to show up. We are also working on an exhibition dedicated to Marco in the City of Coriano, managed directly by the Foundation. We are just getting started and we're surrounded by positivity that was so typical of Marco, positivity that affected everyone around him and made him an extraordinary person."

"The basic premise of the Foundation," explained Paolo Simoncelli, "is that through keeping the memory of Marco alive we can help alleviate suffering of those who are worse off than us. It is hard for me to say where and how the funds raised will be distributed, since I cannot assess how much we will have available as time goes by. One thing is certain; I will try and manage all this as a good father."

"We received a huge number of messages of affection for Marco" added Paolo Simoncelli, "and this has helped and continues to help us overcome the difficult times that we live with daily. Seeing how many people loved our son has helped us go on and we believe that ‘The Marco Simoncelli Foundation’ represents the best way to remember him in the future."

Repsol names Moto3 riders, aims for all three titles in 2012

Repsol has announced it will back Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira in the new Moto3 World Championship - and is thus aiming to win riders' world titles in all three grand prix classes next year.

Repsol, which has more than 40 years of experience in sport sponsorship, won this year's MotoGP title with Honda's Casey Stoner and finished a close runner-up in the Moto2 class with Suter rider Marc Marquez.

Both Stoner and Marquez will remain in Repsol colours for 2012, as will Stoner's MotoGP team-mate Dani Pedrosa (fourth this season with three wins).

Repsol's Moto3 hopes will be in the hands of two 16-year-olds, but both Rins and Oliveira are highly rated.

Rookie Rins is the reigning Spanish (CEV) 125cc champion, while Oliveira already has 11 grand prix starts under his belt and won the last two CEV races using a 250cc four-stroke Moto3 bike for the Monlau Competición Team.

Repsol has also announced that Alex Marquez, younger brother of Marc and runner-up in the 2011 CEV 125cc title to team-mate Rins, will enter 'some races' as a wild-card in 2012.

This will be combined with a full title assault in the CEV Moto3 series.

The last time Repsol participated in the smallest (125cc) class of grand prix motorcycling was in 2010, when the team won the championship with Marc Marquez.

Dovizioso undergoes collarbone surgery

Andrea Dovizioso is beginning along the road to recovery after undergoing a successful surgery on his broken collarbone.

The Italian, who injured himself during a Motocross training accident, took to his Twitter account after going under the knife, stating, “After about 1 hour under surgery I am like new!”

Dovizioso now has just over three weeks to make a full recovery before pre-season MotoGP testing gets underway at Sepang on January 31st, the Italian riding for new employer's Tech 3 Yamaha.

However, while doctors have urged Dovizioso to be careful with the injury, his team manager Herve Poncharal is confident that he will be back to his best by the time he gets aboard the YZR-M1.

Valentino Rossi wins on ice as Wrooom 2012 ends

Ducati MotoGP star Valentino Rossi beat Ferrari F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in a kart race on ice as Wrooom 2012 came to a close on Friday evening at Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.

Rossi - who suffered his first winless grand prix season in 2011 - began the kart race from pole and went on to take victory ahead of Massa, with Alonso recovering to third after an early crash.

Massa then restored some F1 pride by getting the better of seven time MotoGP champion Rossi in the following Fiat 500 car race, in which double Formula One champion Alonso was again third.

“It was really fantastic,” said Rossi. “I practice a lot with karts in the summer, and it was great to drive on the ice, especially because it was much colder this time than it was last year, so the track held up well. Felipe was faster than I was, but anyway, it was a great night. I enjoyed myself.”

Ferrari test drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Marc Gene, plus Rossi's sidekick Uccio also took part in the exhibition races.

Rossi's team-mate Nicky Hayden was unable to race due to his recent shoulder and rib injuries.

The 2012 Ducati Desmosedici, which was not seen at this week's press event, will now undergo a shakedown test before being handed to Rossi and Hayden for the start of the Sepang test on January 31.

Adam Lambert says 'lesson learned' after arrest

Former American Idol finalist Adam Lambert brushed off his arrest in Finland last Thursday, blaming his bad behaviour on travel, booze and ''irrational confusion'' and adding ''lesson learned'' on Twitter.

''Jetlag+Vodka=blackout. Usblackout=irrational confusion. jail+guilt+press=lesson learned. Sauli+Adam+hangover burgers= laughing bout it. :),'' Lambert tweeted to fans.

The Whataya Want From Me singer, 29, was involved in an argument in a Helsinki bar with his boyfriend, Finnish reality TV star Sauli Koskinen. Their quarrel became physical and the pair were arrested, questioned then later released by authorities, according to media reports.

Koskinen also addressed the incident on his blog, writing in Finnish, ''publicity is not easy. But celebrities are only human people''.

Lambert, whose colourful costumes and make-up earned him the nickname ''Glambert'', rose to fame in 2009 on US singing contest American Idol, but lost in the final round of the US's No.1-rated TV show to Kris Allen.

Despite being the runner-up, Lambert forged a solid career and now enjoys a loyal following as a singer. His single Better Than I Know Myself was released last Tuesday, and is currently at No.30 on the iTunes singles chart. _ Piya Sinha-Roy

Man United ousts holder City from FA Cup

Manchester United took a measure of revenge on neighbor Manchester City on Sunday by knocking the defending champion out of the FA Cup with a 3-2 victory marked by Paul Scholes coming out of retirement.

Wayne Rooney headed in two goals either side of Danny Welbeck's volley in a dominant first-half in the third round match, which saw City Vincent Kompany sent off for fouling Nani in the 12th minute.

But the hosts, which humiliated United with a 6-1 league victory at Old Trafford this year and beat their rival in last year's FA Cup semifinals, staged a second-half comeback with Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero scoring to ensure a nervy end for the visitors.

The 37-year-old Scholes came out of retirement on Sunday morning and replaced Nani in the second half, but gave away the ball that led to Aguero's 65th minute-goal.

Madrid, Barca focus on league as clasicos near

Real Madrid and Barcelona will have to try their best to overlook their upcoming cup clasicos and focus on this weekend's league matches first.

Madrid and Barcelona meet for the eighth time since April come Wednesday's Copa del Rey first-leg quarterfinal, but have league matches against Mallorca and Real Betis, respectively.

Coach Jose Mourinho warned his team of looking beyond Mallorca, calling the championship a "priority" with Madrid having opened up a five-point lead over Barcelona.

"Last year we lost two points in Mallorca and it could happen again. It's a very dangerous game," Mourinho said on Friday. "We've got a game against Mallorca first, there's no point in talking about Barcelona now."

Captain Iker Casillas doesn't want his team to "obsess" over Barcelona, with the onslaught of clasicos saturating the magnitude of one of world football's biggest derbies.

"Last year we played four Real Madrid-Barcelonas in 20 days. We have already played the Super Cup, the league and now the Copa del Rey, and we'll play the two-legged series looking to reach the next round," Casillas said.

"But, in my opinion, with so many games, sometimes this series seems a little less than full strength, like decaf."

Madrid will be without injured players Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira for Saturday's game at Mallorca. Fabio Coentrao could start, with the Portugal fullback yet to prove himself since a (euro) 30 million ($38 million) off season move from Benfica.

Barcelona, meanwhile, returns to the Camp Nou where it has won eight of nine games and outscored opponents 39-0.

"We can't throw away the league," Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano said on Friday. "There are still 63 points available and many things can happen."

Forward Pedro Rodriguez is a doubt for Sunday's game with Betis after injuring his left leg in Thursday's cup win over Osasuna, while defender Andreu Fontas damaged ligaments in his right knee in the victory and is set for surgery. Fullback Daniel Alves missed the match as a precaution and could return at the Camp Nou, where Xavi Hernandez is set to make his 400th league appearance for the club.

Coach Pep Guardiola may have to call on some of the club's younger players to reinforce the squad, with Andres Iniesta also missing the match at Osasuna to rest an ankle knock.

"The youth team players will have to be prepared because we're going to have to call them up to fill the spots in the first team,"Guardiola said.

Villarreal is desperate for its first victory in 10 games as the club sits 18th in the last drop spot traveling to Atletico Madrid on Sunday in a matchup of new coaches seeking their first victories. Atletico's Diego Simeone returns to Vicente Calderon for the first time since his playing days hile counterpart Jose Francisco Molina also earned a draw in his debut last week.

In other 19th-round matches, it's: Zaragoza vs. Getafe; Granada vs Rayo Vallecano; Sevilla vs. Espanyol; Valencia vs. Real Sociedad; Osasuna vs. Racing Santander; Athletic Bilbao vs. Levante; and Sporting Gijon vs. Malaga.

Muhammad Ali's Legend Endures as Icon Turns 70

Muhammad Ali, the iconic boxer who was jailed for refusing to serve as a soldier, turns 70 on Tuesday and will return home to Louisville, Kentucky, to celebrate his birthday at a gala dinner on Saturday.

Friends and family will pay tribute to the former world heavyweight champion at the Muhammad Ali Center, a museum and cultural gathering place that opened in November of 2005 and immortalizes Ali’s life and career. Long-time trainer Angelo Dundee and Ali’s wife, Lonnie, will be among the guests at the dinner, which launches a week of activities in homage to Ali at the center, “Seven Days for Seven Decades”.

“For such a global icon who has literally touched the lives of millions of people, it’s a momentous event to celebrate,” Ali Center spokeswoman Jeanie Kahnke said. While Ali has not fought in more than 30 years, his courage in and out of the ring and humanitarian efforts have made him an enduring legend despite struggles with Parkinson’s disease that diminishes his physical capabilities.

Ali has helped deliver food and medical supplies to the needy around the world, ignoring political convention. His work was hailed in 2005 with the US Medal of Freedom, the highest award that can be given to an American citizen. Ali’s goodwill missions include trips to North Korea and Afghanistan, taking medical supplies to Cuba, visiting Iraq to help secure the release of hostages and visiting Nelson Mandela after his release from a South African prison.

“Muhammad involves people as stakeholders in his success,” Lonnie Ali said. "He makes people feel important, worthy and good about themselves.”

Health struggles continue for Ali, who last November was hospitalized for dehydration after losing consciousness at his Phoenix, Arizona, home. The incident came a few days after he attended the funeral for epic rival Joe Frazier, who died of liver cancer on November 8.

A poet with punching power, Ali weaved magical rhymes long before modern rap music existed, infusing a culture and a generation with confidence and often defiance at a time when black Americans were fighting for their basic rights. “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. His hands can’t hit what his eyes can’t see,” Ali said before fighting George Foreman in 1974.

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay in Louisville on January 17, 1942, Ali turned to boxing at age eight after a prized bicycle was stolen. Ali won the 1960 Rome Olympics light heavyweight gold medal to complete a 100-5 amateur record.

He went on to post a 56-5 professional record with 37 knockouts and become the first man to claim the heavyweight throne three times. As civil rights issues came to the forefront in 1960s America, along came an outspoken, bold black man to instill pride in black culture, respect for black beauty and hope for racial equality.

After defeating Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964, in Miami Beach to claim the world heavyweight title, the new champion announced he was a Muslim and was changing his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. After rejecting induction into the US Army to fight in Vietnam in 1967, Ali was convicted of draft evasion and sentenced to five years in prison, although he remained free while appealing.

Ali was stripped of his crown and barred from boxing, keeping him out of the ring in 1968 and 1969 at what should have been peak years in his career. The US Supreme Court later overturned his conviction and Ali returned to the ring in 1970. Ali suffered his first loss when Frazier won a unanimous 15-round decision in 1971.

In 1974, Ali avenged the loss to Frazier and knocked out Foreman in the eighth round of the famed “Rumble in the Jungle” in Kinshasa, Zaire, to reclaim the heavyweight crown.

“Muhammad actually whipped the devil out of me,” Foreman said. Ali stopped Frazier in the 14th round of the “Thrilla in Manila” in 1975 to win their legendary trilogy and retired in 1979.

Ali was stopped by Larry Holmes in the 11th round in a 1980 comeback bid and fought for the final time on December 11, 1981, losing a 10-round decision to Jamaican Trevor Berbick at Nassau, Bahamas. Ali’s legend grew over the years, inspiring his selection as the person to ignite the cauldron at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

“My left hand was shaking because of Parkinson’s. My right hand was shaking from fear. Somehow, between the two of them, I got the thing lit,” Ali said.

Apple Buys Israeli Flash-memory Company

Apple confirmed Wednesday that it has bought Anobit Technologies, an Israeli maker of flash memory technology already used in many of Apple's gadgets.

Applespokesman Steve Dowling said that Apple buys smaller tech companies from time to time, but generally does not give a reason why or say what it plans to do with them. The company did not say how much it paid for Anobit, although Bloomberg said a source close to deal quoted a purchase price of "about US$390 million".

Flash memory is used in digital devices such as cameras and music players. It's lighter and more durable than memory used in computer hard drives, though it stores less information. Apple's iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air, which don't have hard drives, rely on flash memory.

Owning the manufacturer guards Apple against supply constraints in the industry and allows the company to customize the technology so it works more smoothly with the iPhone and other devices. Israeli publication Calcalist reported in December that Apple was in talks to buy Anobit. Apple made the acquisition to secure intellectual property and for a competitive edge in flash products and pricing, said Jefferies analyst Peter Misek in a research note last month.

Apple doesn't often announce acquisitions. It recently bought Siri Inc ahead of integrating that company's voice-recognition technology into the iPhone 4s and mobile advertising company Quattro Wireless in 2010, among other deals.

Anobit could not be reached for comment after business hours in Jerusalem Wednesday. Bloomberg reported earlier that Apple had confirmed the deal.

Bologna Motor Show concludes with Dovizioso second in Memorial Bettega rally

The 36th edition of the Bologna Motor Show concluded on Sunday after two weeks of activities related to the four wheeled world. Apart from manufacturer’s new editions on display, the show hosts various competitions and exhibitions every year that are pure adrenaline on the Mobil 1 Arena circuit. Yesterday the Memorial Bettega rally took place, a rally wherein professional Rally car face off with guests from other racing disciplines.

The winner of this edition was Norwegian WRC driver Petter Solberg, with MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso claiming second in the final.

The Italian was the main protagonist at the 27th edition of the Memorial Bettega, the highlight of the second week of the Bologna Motor Show. With impeccable driving at the wheel of his Ford Fiesta RS, Dovizioso won the semifinal against Jari-Matti Latvala before the thrilling final against Solberg.

“Today went well and I beat all of the challengers, including the best, and only the final didn’t go perfectly and I made a few mistakes. I didn’t win, but in front of people like Petter,” added Dovizioso, who remains open to future forays competing on four wheels. “I could participate every day in races like this, though I don’t know if I could be as competitive in a “real” rally.”

The 2011 edition of the Motor Show featured various tributes to Marco Simoncelli. One of the first events of the Bologna Motor Show featured a tribute video to the late Italian star, with an additional homage video played this past Saturday at the Bettega Memorial Rally - a competition that ‘Super Sic’ would not have missed.

Pirro: "I want to make a statement in MotoGP"

Michele Pirro shared his expectations and goals ahead of his upcoming season aboard the Gresini team’s CRT. "It's definitely an important milestone," began the 25 year-old. "I’ll be joining the best riders in the world in the highest category of racing on board a great team.”

Pirro recently extended his partnership with the Italian team, about which he said: “I am happy I’m staying with them, they are like family and after everything that happened at the end of the season, I really wanted to stay. My first place at Valencia gave Fausto (Gresini) and the team the strength to take the next step they needed to continue. After what happened in Sepang, the motivation to continue racing was at risk, but that victory helped us want to try to build something positive.”

After a competitive season in the Moto2 Championship, the Italian is ready to make the lead into the premier class where he will confront the challenge of the new CRT category, which will commence in 2012. “People are saying that it is the future,” said Pirro. "Of course in the beginning it will be criticized, just like the Moto2 class was. But after the first year, it should be possible to develop the performance of the CRT bikes even further.”

Following his win at the final round in Valencia, most expected that he would run a second term in the 600cc Moto2 class. But the two-time 1000cc Italian Superstock champion surprised everyone by opting instead for the jump to MotoGP. "I admit I waited until the last second to decide whether to continue with Moto2, especially after learning about the circuits and the category in general. With a few improvements to the bike, most likely we could have had a successful season. But I spoke with Fausto several times and he has always had the utmost confidence in me and encouraged me, and has never stopped believing in my abilities, so I'm really happy and proud to represent the Gresini team in MotoGP.”

“Staying in Moto2 surely would have allowed me to develop further in the class as a rider, and taking on this new opportunity will be a lot of hard work. But I'm happy, we will work hard to do our best to have a good season, although, given the newness of the class it’s difficult to predict too much. I am prepared and excited to invest in this new project."

The San Carlo Honda Gresini Team will run a prototype Italian FTR chassis with a Honda CBR 1000 engine, which he went on to describe: "The bike is promising, FTR has always made good chassis and of course the Honda engine and will strong. Although Aprilia and BMW are further ahead in development, I will still try to focus and prepare myself to start from where we are to move the project forward. Hopefully we can adapt the chassis to the tires, but for my part I will have to learn everything about the bike, from the electronics to the best suitable riding position. But most important will be the first test, which is expected to be in February.”

Pirro isn’t new to 1000cc bikes, having won the Italian 1000cc Superstock Championship in 2007 and 2008, riding a Yamaha YZF-R1 for the Yamaha Lorenzini by Leoni team. The next season he won the Italian Supersport Championship, and in 2010 rode as a replacement for the injured Vladimir Ivanov of the Gresini Racing Moto2 team, with which he remained for the next season as a regular rider.

The Italian’s career path saw him jump to the highest category in just a few years’ time. “For every rider, the ultimate goal is to race in MotoGP, but I’ll admit that this step in my plans was expected to happen in a couple of years. The important thing now is to work well with the team and have fun at the same time, because when everything goes your way and you can ride without problems, the results gradually come. In a few years I’ve done what many of my colleagues take much longer to achieve, but I believe I've earned each step along the way to the higher categories."

"I don’t want to just 'participate' in the MotoGP class, I’d also like make a statement. Even if the level is high, and I’m racing with the best riders in the world, I want to try to be competitive with them. I realize that in the beginning this won’t be easy, it will be difficult to achieve much because of the different technical circumstances, but hopefully the first year with CRT is an investment for the future, to grow and be competitive in the coming seasons.”

Tintin Goes Native, Belgium Red Carpet for Spielberg Film

Brussels. Belgium rolled out a royal red carpet on Saturday for Tintin, its most celebrated son, as Steven Spielberg premiered his blockbuster movie in the comic book hero’s home capital.

Posters of the intrepid boy reporter with the quiff and funny pants were plastered across town, and a parade of vintage cars, as portrayed by author Herge in albums set in the 1940s, was organized to coincide with the event.

Spielberg flies in for the first public screening of “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn,” an Avatar-style movie that will bring the boy hero and his trusty sidekick Snowy to cinemas elsewhere from Wednesday.

Co-produced by “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson, Spielberg’s “Tintin,” in the director’s own words, is billed as a kind of “Indiana Jones for kids.”

Loosely based on several of the 24 Tintin comic albums, the story kicks off in a well-known Brussels antiques market, and city authorities are looking to a tourist bonanza for “the most celebrated of Belgians” — as the posters say.

Tintin and Spielberg, whose project dates back 30 years, headlined papers and TV broadcasts in anticipation of the movie, which gets its red-carpet premiere early afternoon before Spielberg leaps onto a high-speed train to Paris for a second premiere later on Saturday.

“There’s a lot of excitement over the movie,” said Dominique Maricq, an oldtimer at Herge Studios. “We’re curious to see how Hollywood portrays him.”

Welcoming Spielberg’s decision to unveil the 3-D animation in Belgium, Maricq said that from the start Belgian specialists had been “impressed by Spielberg and Jackson’s determination to respect the spirit of Tintin’s world, to not turn him into an American super-hero.”

Even one of the King Albert II’s daughters will be attending the red carpet event.

But among the most avid spectators will be a Belgian retiree who has the distinction of being the sole person ever to have played Tintin on screen — 50 years ago in a French production.

Jean-Pierre Talbot, a round-faced 68-year-old retired schoolteacher with a Tintinesque quiff, became an actor by fluke after being spotted on a beach by a film director as resembling the comic book hero.

“I’m upset and a little emotional,” he said before seeing the Hollywood rendition. “I never acted again but for people here I’ve remained Tintin.”

Created in 1929 by Herge, whose real name was Georges Remi and who was then in his early 20s, Tintin and his colorful and sometimes foul-mouthed companions have achieved cult status for millions worldwide.

Shot using motion capture technology, the Spielberg movie uses real-life actors — Jamie Bell of “Billy Elliot” fame as the fresh-faced hero, Daniel Craig as the villain Red Rackham — to breathe life into its characters.

Jackson is to direct two sequels.

Spielberg 'Honored' by War Horse's Royal Premiere

London. Prince William and his wife Catherine on Sunday attended the British premiere of Steven Spielberg's new film War Horse along with 600 serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families.

Spielberg said it was "an honor" to be attending his first royal premiere with the Duke and Duchess as he made his way in the rain down the red carpet at London's Leicester Square.

The US director also praised the couple's "wonderful" gesture to invite soldiers to the event.

"It's a great honour that they've (William and Kate) given up their time and also given up their charity and it's wonderful because it was their idea to bring the veterans here, so they could share this evening," he said.

The movie tells the story of Joey, a horse raised on the English countryside who is torn away from his home -- and stable lad Albert -- and sent to France to the battlefields of World War I.

The story follows Albert on his mission to find his equine partner amid the blood, mud and misery of the Great War.

Spielberg used celluloid film to record the movie, which received a Golden Globe nomination this month ahead of its Christmas Day release in the United States, to give it an old-fashioned feel.

The Hollywood heavyweight said filming the movie was "a beautiful, beautiful experience."

"All these actors, every single one in this movie bonded with Joey," he added. "If I could do it all over again, I would only do it again so I could repeat the experience."

Joey was played by around a dozen horses from all from around the world, notably Spain. Stable boy Albert is played by 21-year-old British actor Jeremy Irvine, who had previously only worked in TV.

The movie, which follows on a hugely successful Broadway and West End show, also features Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Emily Watson and David Thewlis.

Most critics so far have been broadly positive, although some have questioned Spielberg's approach, like the Guardian's newspaper critic Andrew Pulver, who said the director "can't seem to snap out of a now-habitual mode of vitality-erasing, dewy-eyed affectation."

The Duke and Duchess attended in aid of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, the charity set up by the royal brothers in 2009.

The servicemen and women invited to the premiere came from the Duke's regiments.

Can Lionel Messi Become the Greatest Football Player of All Time?

Paris. Lionel Messi became only the second man to win three consecutive Ballon d’Or awards on Monday and the question now begging to be asked is: could he become the greatest player of all time?

The 24-year-old from Rosario, Santa Fe is not short of silverware but what really sets him apart is the effervescence of his dribbling, the inventiveness of his team play and the extraordinary regularity of his goalscoring.

In 2011, Messi scored 59 goals in 70 club games for Barcelona. It was a figure bettered only by Cristiano Ronaldo (60), but Messi also contributed 37 assists to the Portuguese’s 21.

Only Michel Platini had previously won the Ballon d’Or for three years running and Messi now belongs to an elite group also featuring Dutch legends Johan Cruyff and Marco van Basten to have been honoured with the award on three occasions.

“Messi will be the player to win the most Ballons d’Or in history,” Cruyff predicts.

“He will win five, six, seven. He is incomparable. He’s in a different league.”

Messi has also proven himself capable of rising to the occasion when the sport’s biggest prizes are on the line.

His influence echoed long and loud over the closing stages of last season’s Champions League, after he netted twice in Barca’s semi-final defeat of Ronaldo’s Real Madrid and found the target against Manchester United in the final at Wembley.

Barcelona’s trophy haul in 2011 meant that Messi now has three Champions League winners’ medals and five La Liga crowns to his name.

He has also won the FIFA Club World Cup twice and it is a matter of time until he surpasses Cesar Rodriguez’ record of 235 goals for his club.

In terms of pure ability with a football, Messi bears comparison with any player who has ever played the game, but his one Achilles heel is his inability to reproduce his Barcelona form in the light blue and white stripes of his country.

Messi’s goalscoring record with Argentina is a disappointing 19 goals in 66 games, and he was unable to prevent his country from crashing out in the quarter-finals at both the 2010 World Cup and last year’s Copa America in his homeland.

Traditionalists contend that, for all his astonishing exploits at club level, he cannot be compared to Pele or his feted countryman Diego Maradona until he has left his imprint on a major international tournament.

His next opportunity will arrive at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, when -- at the age of 26 -- he should be in prime position to showcase his gifts on the game’s most prestigious stage.

“I still have this dream and that is to be a world champion and lift the Copa America with the national side,” said Messi recently.

“And I know I’ll do it, I’m convinced I will.”

Away from the sport, Messi cuts a far more bashful figure than his great rival Ronaldo, but that has not prevented him from amassing a huge personal fortune through several lucrative endorsements, notably with Adidas.

He was named one of Time magazine’s people of 2011 and is also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, but it is through his dazzling dribbling, his carefully weighted passing and his artful finishing that he has earned his global fame.

Typically deployed by Barca coach Pep Guardiola in a roving forward role, he roams the pitch with seemingly boyish abandon and few things hush a stadium more quickly than the sight of Messi embarking on one of his gambolling runs towards goal.

“There are no words left to describe him -- he is interplanetary,” said Real Zaragoza coach Jose Aurelio Gay in March 2010.

“We could have beaten Barcelona but we could never have beaten Leo Messi. If we had scored four, he would have scored 12.”

The terrifying thought for Barcelona’s rivals is that he is still getting better.

Three's a trend: Look-alike marriages

Steven Tyler and Erin Brady

Who are they? Erin, 38, is a model, and do we really need to introduce camp-as-a-row-of-tents Aerosmith rocker, Steven Tyler, 68, who's also American Idol's kookiest judge? His one-liners were mind-boggling. Our fave? "Confucius says crowded elevators smell differently to midgets." We have no idea either.
Relationship status They met in 2006 - came to Dubai to party at Cavalli Club in 2009 - and got engaged last month.
Key similarity point Big pouts, oval faces, luscious locks - they both look like Janice Dickinson. Dude looks like a lady.
Fashion tip Overdo it. All the time.

Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald

Who are they? Nikki, 23, plays vampire Rosalie Hale in Twilight and Paul, 27, was a 2011 finalist on American Idol (which starts again next week!)
Relationship status They met at the premiere of Little Red Riding Hood last March (Nikki blushed when she first met Paul), became engaged in June and got married in October in Malibu. Divorced by next March? We hope not.
Key similarity points Take away Paul's beard and the bottom half of their faces are identical: their wide smiles are both the shape of upside down 'taches.
Beauty tip How do they keep their pearlies so bright? Maybe they rub rare Icelandic snow on their teeth? Or just brush after every meal (and have constant whitening treatments)?

Pietersen changes sides in India’s IPL

England’s batting star Kevin Pietersen has left Deccan Chargers to play for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League this year, his new franchise said yesterday.

Pietersen, who turned out for Bangalore Royal Challengers in 2009 and 2010, had signed up with the Hyderabad-based Chargers last year, but could not play for them following a hernia surgery.

The exciting right-hander was picked up by the Virender Sehwag-captained Delhi Daredevils during the transfer window for the fifth edition to be played from April 4 to May 27.

“We are pleased to add Kevin to our line-up,” said T.A. Sekhar, the cricket head of GMR Sports, owners of the Delhi Daredevils franchise.

“He brings rich experience and an explosive quality to our batting and can be a more than handy off-spinner as well.

“We are sure that Kevin will help us to be very competitive this season and the Delhi Daredevils fans will enjoy this addition.”

Pietersen, preparing for England’s Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates later this month, said he was relishing the opportunity of playing in the same team as Sehwag.
