Simoncelli: Will He or Won't He?

Italy's Marco Simoncelli has come under considerable media focus recently as the reigning 250 cc world champion expressed a desire to take part in the opening two rounds of the 2009 Superbike World Championship on a factory Aprilia RSV4, as a wild-card entry alongside the team's new pairing of Max Biaggi and Shinya Nakano.

Although the initial enthusiasm in competing came from the 21 year-old from Cattolica after he completed a test on the Aprilia Superbike at Valencia as a ‘prize' for winning the 250 title last year, the Noale-based manufacturer has also been quick to come round to the idea. To the point that if there is a possibility to do the opening two rounds, then Aprilia will willingly prepare two bikes, or at least one, for Simoncelli.

However, as an Aprilia source pointed out to WorldSBK.com, "It would be great for the company from an image point of view, but logistically it would also be very difficult to prepare six or even five bikes for Biaggi, Nakano and Simoncelli, as well as put together the extra technical crew for the two overseas races".

The final decision will rest with Giampiero Sacchi and Luigi Dall'Igna, but with Aprilia anxious to speed up the RSV4's development in its first WSBK campaign (nine days of testing - three at Portimao, three at Phillip Island, and three at Valencia - are planned before the opening round in Australia on March 1st), the possibility of seeing three brand-new Aprilia RSV4 machines on the grid at Phillip Island is not so remote after all.

Bayliss predicts three way fight for WSB 2009

Three times World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss expects his replacement rider at Xerox Ducati, ‘Nitro’ Noriyuki Haga, to be among the contenders for the 2009 WSB crown but is equally sure that young riders Michel Fabrizio and Ben Spies will not make it easy for Haga.

Haga tested the Ducati in South Africa at the beginning of December 2008 and crashed the bike no less than three times on his first day of practise. However by day three the Japanese rider was getting to grips with the torquey machine and recorded the third best time of the day.

Haga has proved throughout his career that he is among the fastest and most exciting of motor cycle racers, however his over exuberance has often cost him dearly and he will need to show some consistency on board the Ducati if he is finally to break his duck and win the WSB championship.

Michel Fabrizio began the 2008 season as team mate to Troy Bayliss at Xerox Ducati and despite some early promise the youngster had to have surgery to his forearm shortly after the Assen race, cutting his season short. Bayliss has seen enough of the Italian to predict that his World Superbike results will put him in contention for the title at the end of the 2009 season.

Having won the AMA Superbike for three consecutive years, American born Ben Spies was rewarded for his endeavours with a starting place in the British Moto GP as stand in for injured rider Loris Capirossi. Spies finished the race in 14thplace and earned himself a test ride with Rizla Suzuki, where he was disappointingly slow.
In contrast to the Suzuki tests, Spies has proved that he is no slouch and has shown his credentials at Yamaha Motor Italia, when testing the potent new R1. In the South African tests at the Kyalami circuit earlier this month, the Worls Superbike news was that Spies had recorded the second fastest time of testing overall, despite riding a totally new bike and visiting the WSB testing circuits for the first time.

Trezeguet returns to first team training

Rome - Former France striker David Trezeguet started training with his team-mates again on Monday for the first time since having knee surgery in September, the club said on its website.

The 31-year-old has played only six minutes this season in Juve's opening home match against Udinese on September 14. Nine days later he was operated on.

According to Juve he will come into first team contention at the end of the month.

Trezeguet - who has fallen out of favour with France coach Raymond Domenech - has been an unqualified success at Juventus since joining the club in 2000, scoring 130 goals in 219 league matches.

He also scored the golden goal winner for France against Italy in the Euro 2000 final.

In only their second season back in the top flight following their demotion in 2006 for match-fixing, Juve currently sit second in Serie A, just four points behind champions Inter Milan.

Sharapova pulls out of Australian Open

By Tanalee Smith, Associated Press Writer

SYDNEY, Australia (AP)— Maria Sharapova's shoulder injury will keep her out of another big event—the Australian Open.

Sharapova told the tournament Sunday she will not be able to defend her title at Melbourne Park beginning Jan. 19. She also missed the Beijing Olympics and the U.S. Open because of the injury, and her recovery has been slower than expected.

“My shoulder is doing great,” she said in a statement. “But I just started training a few weeks ago and I am just not near the level I need to be to compete at the highest levels.”

Her Australian Open victory last year started an 18-match winning streak, enabling the Russian to briefly reclaim her No. 1 ranking in May. But her ailing shoulder hampered her progress in the second half of the season.

Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said he was disappointed for Sharapova, who beat Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in the 2008 final.

“She played some amazing tennis on Rod Laver Arena last year and has a massive legion of fans in Australia,” Tiley said. “I know she has been working around the clock to try and get back from the shoulder injury. In the end, time beat her this year.”

Moving the My Documents Folder to Help Speed Up Your Slow Computer

By Tom Meintjes

Moving the C:Douments folder really helps to fine tune your slow computer and improve it's performance as you will see when you have gone through the process of moving the folder to another hard drive.

When Windows is installed on your computer, it places a folder named My Documents on the same drive as the Operating System, in most cases drive C:.

The My Documents folder is your own personal folder and there is a shortcut to My Documents in your start menu, on your desktop and it is also the default folder when you open Windows Explorer, thus making it easily accessible and manageable. It also has subfolders in it where you can store your photos, music, videos and any other personal files.

Windows creates a My Documents folder for each user on the computer.

However, having the C:Documents folder and the Operating System on the same hard drive is not such a good idea because the personal files in the C:Documents folder is growing in size constantly while the Windows Operating System grows very little in size over a long period of time.

This has a progressively negative influence on Windows’ performance. The C: Drive is going to get filled up with this personal data and you will have to start deleting files to make more space.

The second problem that arises is it complicates backup. Your personal data needs to be backed up frequently, while the Windows Operating System only has to be backed up once and thereafter you only need to create a restore point for it.

A third problem that surfaces is disk defragmenting. Having all this ever increasing data, the Operating System and your user applications on one drive, results in a slower defrag and may also keep your system from defragging at all.

It is, however, possible to move the whole My Documents folder if you have more than one hard drive or partition on your computer. But many PC's have only a single partition of their hard drive; that is, their only hard drive is their C: drive.

The My Documents folder can therefore not be moved, unless you are able to partition the existing drive. In some cases it is possible to partition the existing C: drive, if the correct settings were used when the drive was originally formatted and the format used was NTFS and not FAT32.

Another thing is that there must be more free space on the second drive or partition than the size of the C:Douments folder. To find out how much space there is, click on My Computer and select Properties on the drives (usually C: and D: Not the CD or DVD drive). Make a note of the free space available on each drive. Now, while still in My Computer, right-click on My Documents and select Properties. You should see the folder sizes shown after a while. The largest figure is the amount of disk space you will need.

Now do the following:

Click Start, and then right-click on My Documents, click Properties, click the Target tab.

In the Target box, type the path to the folder location that you want, and then click OK. For example, D:My Documents.

If the folder does not exist, the Create Message dialog box is displayed. Click Yes to create the folder, and then click OK or click Move, click the folder in which to store your documents, and then click OK twice. If you need to create a new folder, click Make New Folder. Type a name for the folder, and then click OK twice. In the Move Documents box, click Yes to move your documents to the new location.

If , for any reason you would wish to restore the C:Documents folder to its default location, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then point to My Documents. Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties. Click Restore Default, and then click OK. In the Move Documents box, click Yes to move your documents to the new location, or click No to leave your documents in the original location.

Also, if you would wish to remove the My Documents Folder from the Start menu, follow these steps:

Right-click Start, and then click Properties. Click Customize. Click the Advanced tab. In the Start menu items list, under My Documents, click Don't display this item, and then click OK twice. The next time you click Start, the My Documents folder is no longer displayed on the Start menu. This does not remove the files stored in the target location of the My Documents folder.

Except for moving the My Documents folder to another drive there are several other things you must keep in mind when you would like to speed up your slow computer. You cannot completely speed up a slow computer by fixing only one of the problems on it

Computers become slower for several reasons:

- viruses and malware can damage your data and slow down your computer.

- too many programs are installed but not used anymore which consume resources,

- files on the hard drive become fragmented and disorganized,

- the Windows registry has too many unused entries,

- unused network connections slow startup,

- too many programs automatically run at startup

I have researched and tested several products over a period of several months and in order for me to get our slow computer 's performance up to speed again, I made use of not less than 17 different products, each of which is designed to do a certain task on the PC. Eventually we ended up using 11 of these apps (all freeware) on a regular basis which keeps our PC’s performing clean and error free.

In forthcoming articles I'll explain to you in detail, how to clear out forgotten programs, unused, unnecessary and junk files and how to clean and streamline the Windows registry.

Beckham: I Still Want A Challenge

David Beckham has revealed he has missed playing football "at the highest level" after being presented as an AC Milan player ahead of a three-month loan deal from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Beckham, 33, has negotiated a move to the Serie A giants in a bid to remain match fit and stay in the thoughts of England manager Fabio Capello.

His move to LA Galaxy from Real Madrid last year was perceived at the time as a step backwards to a league that has still to establish itself as big-hitter on the world stage, and the former England captain admitted that a move to Milan represented a move back into the mainstream.

"Moving to America was a big step for me because there was a lot of people who were criticising the move, but I still believe it was a move where I wanted to challenge myself and I was able to challenge myself in different ways," Beckham told a press conference in Milan.

"But I have always said that I would always miss playing at the highest level. I'm not saying that in America they won't get to the highest level - it will take time and it will happen. But with five months off during the season I personally can't do that.

"I needed to be able to be playing top-flight football to keep myself fit, to keep myself in contention for other things that are going on."

Beckham, who began the press conference by addressing the assembled media with a few words in Italian, will be in the stands to watch his new team take on Udinese tomorrow evening.

He will then join them at a training camp in Dubai and could make his debut when the Serie A season resumes with a trip to Roma on January 11.

The former Manchester United midfielder added: "I'm really happy to be here, it is a great honour. I hope to add to the team, I hope to give everything that I've always given in my career and it's a huge honour.

"To be able to have the chance to play for another one of the biggest clubs in the world...I've played for the biggest club in England, the biggest club in Spain and now I'm going to be playing for the biggest club in Italy.

"I've been very lucky in my career to have done that, and I'm just going to enjoy it because I think to be given this opportunity is incredible."

Beckham added he was delighted to join what is already a glittering array of talent in the Milan dressing room, and he insists he does expect not to be an automatic inclusion in coach Carlo Ancelotti's line-up.

He said: "I wouldn't have taken this opportunity if I didn't think I could help the team. It's not about anything else apart from the football. I've come here to play with some of the best players in the world.

"To be able to step on to the training field with Kaka, [Andrea] Pirlo [Paolo] Maldini, Ronaldinho...there's so many players that I've always watched and played against but never played with.

"There's some great players out there and I don't expect to walk in on the first day and be starting in the team, it doesn't happen like that. I'm going work hard in training, I'm going to get my fitness - because I need to - and then once I'm fit, hopefully I can get some time in the team, and hopefully help.

"I know there's quite a few injuries at the moment," he added, referring to a lengthy injury list that includes the likes of Kaka, Gennaro Gattuso, Pirlo and Mathieu Flamini.
