Rossi tries Ferrari F1 Simulator but test is in doubt

Ferrari are continuing their interaction with Moto GP champion Valentino Rossi.

Scuderia team boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed earlier this week at Modonna di Cmpiglio, that the 30-year-old is scheduled to test an older F2008 for two days at the Barcelona facility starting next Wednesday.

Rossi prepared for the test with the Ferrari engineers and had a simulated test drive in the car at the team’s newely constructed F1 simulator; said to be at the forefront of the simulation technology.

He was also given the chance to drive the new Ferrari 458 Italia road car (Also tried by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa) around the Fiorano test track while with the scuderia in Maranello

If the test is to happen, this would mark the MotoGP champion’s second run in a Ferrari single-seater; a opportunity being many suggest is being granted as a reward for the Italian winning his ninth world title last year. Due to the FIA imposed F1 testing restrictions, Rossi will have to use a older 2008 chassis for the event, which was scheduled to take place at the Catalunya track in Spain next Wednesday and Thursday.

However, serious doubt now looms over Valentino ability to conduct the test after the reigning MotoGP champion was admitted to San Salvatore hospital in Pesaro, Italy on Thursday with what was described as severe abdominal pain believed to have been diagnosed as an inflamed appendix but, no operation was conducted and he was checked out of the hospital with with nothing more than an antibiotics prescription.

The Italian is being strongly linked with Ferrari’s ongoing plans to enter a third car into the F1 world championship themselves or possibly with a smaller supporting team. The issue came about, as questions still loomed over the ability of some of the lesser teams to compete in F1 from the start of the 2010 season. One of Ferrari’s long time suggestions to rectify the problem has been to field a 3rd car, to fill up the grid in case some don’t make it to the grid.

Ferrari are not alone, and Bernie Ecclestone has also expressed numerous concerns that some of the smaller outfits could very well falter in producing a car for 2010.

“It’s not sure that the third car will be allowed, but if it is, Valentino will be welcome,” said Felipe Massa according to Corriere dello Sport when asked about the possibility of Ferrari fielding a 3rd car.

Stefano Domenicali confirmed the desire to do so, “For us the third machine would represent a good move for F1, and especially if a driver like Valentino would be interested.”

Rossi Tests Ferrari in Barcelona

It had been reported earlier that he may have to cancel this test due to some medical reports that he may have had an inflamed appendix after a brief hospital visit in Maranello. As reported by Scuderia Ferrari, the session began in adverse weather conditions for Rossi, running on GP2-spec slicks as allowed by current regulations.

Moto GP’s Rossi (30) is a legend on two wheels, having been crowned the sport’s champion many times has always flirted with the idea of making the transition from two wheels to four. While this test is most likely nothing more than a public relations event, one can’t help but wonder if the desire is there to commit to the switch.

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has suggested that if Ferrari was to field a 3rd car the Italian would be welcome at Ferrari.

Jaime Alguersuari set to drive Toro Rosso for this season

Alguersuari will hold on to his race driving seat with Toro Rosso for the 2010, line up beside Sebastien Buemi for the Italian team. Alguersuari substitute for Sebastien Bourdais at the Red Bull-owned team in July previous season. He is just 19 years-old, the Spaniard became the youngest driver in the history of the Formula 1 world championship, and his most excellent finish came at the second to last round in Brazil when he finished 14th place.

Allowing for that he made his entrance only second-half during 2009 season, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with no earlier testing, he did a good racer, making stable growth all through the second half of the year, with a grown-up approach allowing for he is still only 19 years old, added Franz Tost, (team principal).

In this season, he will once more face a sharp learning curve, as all the circuits in the first part of the season will be new to him. Jaime’s selection also confirms our team’s dedication to bringing on graduates of the Red Bull youthful driver program.

Stoke Smoke Arsenal, but Wenger Has His Eyes on the Big Prize

by Chibueze Kelvin Osuoji

Once more Walcott was poor.

After scrapping through West Ham, Stoke humilated the Gunners, with a poor all-round performance although there are lots of positives to take from the game as Arsene Wengers' mindset, I believe, will change for the better.

Lets clear something straight right from the start and we will know where this is going. Arsenal last won the Premier League in 2004, F.A Cup in 2005 and have never won the Champions League. Therefore Wengers is under more pressure to win the Champions League and Premier League than he is to win the F.A Cup(which I believe he just sacrificed).

With fans on his back, Wenger is feeling the pressure and wants to win a trophy this season. After this game his chances are once more low, or better said he is a dark-horse to win any trophy. This has been the case the last five years where Arsenal finished without trophies except for 07-08 when the season just collapsed after having such amazing runs.

A factor contributing to Arsenal's plight is injuries and the lack of squad depth making Wenger field youngsters and inexperienced folks for games like these. Just for a note, the F.A Cup is no Carling Cup and should be treated with respect. Niklas Bendtner, who Wenger recently put faith in, just recovered and Walcott is just returning from nagging injuries. Additionally, Rosicky can't be risked, Eduardo is low on confidence and Denilson is in shambles.

Arsenal's midfield is poor in a 4-3-3 formation without Song, even when Denilson steps in, because he is just a passenger in games and Fabregas needs tireless Song to cover every blade of grass defensively in midfield to allow Fabregas to just run the offense while Song sits and breaks up counter attacks and cuts out through balls.

Today's game brought pressure on Wenger's decision-making and squad selection. Wenger decided to field the likes of Craig Eastmond, Francis Coquelin, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Carlos Vela and Lukasz Fabianski. Against Stoke City, this is just like the Bud Lite commercial where a guest announces his arrival by whispering he has arrived. And it was indeed a whisper from Arsenal as they where blown away by hard working Stoke City.

Wenger himself already stated he was positive about his selection. But since the substitutes came on at 1-1, who can we point the finger at? The players who didn't do enough, the players who weren't determined and who lacked commitment. Who could those players be?

Rating Arsenal's defensive cover, I will say it's going to be a tough job. Gallas and Vermaelen can't do it alone, Silvestre is always a joke and Campbell just needs to get his fitness up.

Walcott's commitment and imagination has to be questioned, as he looked like he has learned nothing over the years and is one overrated player in the Arsenal ranks. There, I said it.

Is Vela the hot product everyone was craving to see play? He is just another youngster that has to be watched carefully or else......

Wenger is still to blame. After all winter signing could help out, but there is only about a week left and Wenger has to definitely look into this.

Now all that is left is the Premier League and Arsenal have to rally the troops in order to take a nearly impossible maximum points from their next four Premier League ties, play well in the Champions League and bring a trophy home.

Wenger is also pushing Fabregas closer to Barcelona with Arsenal's current and nearly future trophy cabinet. Fabregas can kiss his badge all he wants, but it has to cross his mind that he could have been part of the Barcelona dynasty.

I also believe that Wenger's selection can be justified by the fact that he, the fans, the players and the board definitely want to conquer England and the F.A Cup should come as a bonus to the team and this result definitely means alot but further down the road avoided injuries and a humiliating defeat can all be forgotten when Aston Villa is swept under the rug.
