Scorched 3D v42.1

Scorched 3D is a game based loosely (or actually quite heavily now) on the classic DOS game Scorched Earth “The Mother Of All Games”. Scorched 3D adds amongst other new features a 3D island environment and LAN and Internet play. Scorched 3D is totally free and is available for both Microsoft Windows and Unix (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Solaris, etc.) operating systems. You can pick up the game and begin playing very quickly. Then, when/if you are interested, you can poke in the dimmer recesses of the game and get into the strategy (or just ignore it altogether!).At its lowest level, Scorched 3D is just an artillery game with two+ tanks taking turns to destroy opponents in an arena. Choose the angle, direction and power of each shot, launch your weapon, and try to blow up other tanks. That´s basically it. But Scorched 3D can be a lot more complex than that, if you want it to be. You can earn money from successful battles and use it to invest in additional weapons and accessories. You can play with up to twenty four other players at a time, mixing computer players with humans. There´s a variety of changing environmental conditions and terrains to be dealt with. After the end of each round (which ends when everybody dies or there´s only one person left), you get to buy stuff using the prize money you won from previous matches.

What’s New in version 42.1:
Fixed server web console not displaying Unicode characters correctly
Changed skill formula to have less fluctuations
Added possibility to grant skill based on round/match wins
Added configuration settings for skill system
Fixed unicode names in server web console
Added more tank attributes to LUA tank table
Transient options can be retrieved via the LUA get options function
Casting of 64bit types for completeness
Changes for 64bit compilers
Enabled fogging for objects
Import fixes for gcc version 3.4
Updated configure script to remove X11 dependancies for OSX binaries
Fixed a bug where the server may send some text messages to more than the intended client.
Updated documentation files to remove actual information and add links to wiki
Changed launcher to not have S3D_SERVER #defined to allow visible dialog messages
Fixes a bug where the working directory is not set to the binary path under win32.

Aoyama tenth as Gresini questions motivation

Having been given a verbal hurry-up after day one of the US MotoGP, Hiroshi Aoyama finished his first Laguna Seca weekend with a tenth place finish.

The Japanese had been just 17th and 16th (out of 18 riders) during Friday practice, prompting Aoyama's team manager Fausto Gresini to say:

"Hiroshi is going through a difficult period and we expect more from him considering the potential he showed in the first part of the season," said former racer Gresini.

"He is going backwards and that is a strange thing - it seems as though he is lacking motivation and I find that hard to understand because he can do much better than this and I expect much more from him.”

Aoyama, who suffered a heavy fall while substituting for Dani Pedrosa at the factory Honda team during the Dutch TT weekend, felt 'partly satisfied' with his tenth place in the race.

The Japanese overtook rookie Karel Abraham on the final lap, as the Ducati rider struggled with a technical problem.

“Starting from 14th place is never easy so I had to make a few passes before I could get into my true rhythm. I am partly satisfied to have finished tenth but it was a tough race because I am still not physically fit," said Aoyama.

"My intention was to make it to the end and I am happy I did that because this was my first race here at Laguna. Now we have a short break and I hope I can come back stronger in the next race at Brno, ready to fight for a good result.”

“Tenth for Hiroshi is not a result worthy of celebration but it was important for him to finish this one and I am sure he will be much more motivated for the next one at Brno," added Gresini.

Aoyama took his satellite spec RC212V to a fourth place finish at the wet Jerez race earlier this year.

The former 250cc world champion is now ninth in the championship, one place ahead of factory mounted team-mate Marco Simoncelli, who suffered his fourth DNF of the year on Sunday.

Laguna crash leaves Bautista 'really frustrated

Rizla Suzuki's Álvaro Bautista finished Sunday's US Grand Prix in the gravel after crashing out of eighth place just before the halfway mark of the 32 laps.

Bautista had advanced from twelfth on the grid and looked set to join the battle for sixth between the Factory Ducatis of Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi - both of whom he beat, on the last lap, at the previous Sunday's German round.

Bautista was closing on the pair when he low-sided his GSV-R. The Spaniard unable to restart his machine and had to retire from the race.

“I am very, very disappointed after today and really frustrated because although we did a really good job all weekend, we didn't get the result we deserved and I crashed," said Bautista. "We tried many different things here this weekend and used a completely different setting to last year and we managed to get the same good feeling as we had in Germany.

"This is the best I have felt on a bike in my MotoGP career so I know things are moving in the right direction.

"For the race I started with a hard front tyre and I now think it was a mistake not to use a soft," he continued. "I overtook some other guys and got behind the Ducatis, but I was a bit far away and had to catch them up.

"My rhythm was really good and I had a lot of confidence in the bike, but I lost the front without any reason and crashed. I had entered that corner at the same speed and in the same place in previous laps so I don't know what happened.

"I am happy with the work we did this weekend and pleased with my level on the bike. Before the crash I was fighting for sixth or seventh and I know we can be there now and we have to keep working at this level and higher in the next races."

“Once the race settled down, our lap-times were not so different from Dovizioso and Spies battling for fourth, so despite today's' disappointment there are a lot of positives to take from this weekend at Laguna Seca," added team manager Paul Denning.

MotoGP now embarks on a short summer break before resuming the 2011 season at Brno on Sunday 14th August, when Bautista will be joined by John Hopkins, who is making a wild-card appearance at the eastern European circuit.

Stoner: Too early for title talk

Casey Stoner has rejected suggestions that he is well on his way to the 2011 MotoGP title.

The Repsol Honda star scored his fifth win of the season in Sunday's US MotoGP at Laguna Seca - ending a three-race losing streak and raising his win rate back up to 50% after ten of 18 rounds.

The Australian heads for the MotoGP summer break with a 20 point advantage over Jorge Lorenzo, who Stoner caught and passed on Sunday.

"Talking championship points at this moment is a little difficult. Points can slip away so quickly. As long as we are there at the end of this season - we're not going to win the world championship now," said Stoner, the 2007 world champion.

"I think if we have a chance to win it that'll come towards the end of the season or the last race. As long as I stay close enough for that, and we can keep these good results up, then I'll be happy.

"But Jorge is going to be strong every race and I think Dani [Pedrosa] is going to be up there, beating us and taking points away from us. It's definitely going to be a tough end to the season."

Yamaha's reigning world champion Lorenzo, lucky to escape serious injury in a huge Saturday crash, has won just two of the ten races this year. This time last year he had won seven of the ten races.

"To win the world title the important thing is to finish in front of Casey. Today we tried and couldn't, but there are more races," said the Spaniard.

"My strategy is just to go as fast as I can. Even then it is going to be tough, but we will try to the end.

"At Brno, in a better physical condition, maybe things can change."

Stoner and Lorenzo have both suffered one DNF so far this season.

Honda has not won the MotoGP title since 2006 and 2011 is the factory's last chance for an 800cc crown.

The Czech Republic Grand Prix takes place from August 12-14.
