Ducati describes bike plan for 2014

From the start of next season, factory outfits will be able to supply machines to private teams which will be able to run according to the 2014 rules, allowing them several differences when it comes to technical regulations.

“Since the new rules came out for next year, where it is actually possible for a full MotoGP bike to run in what would have been the CRT class – using the single ECU and single software – we are considering to make available the 2013 bike with this package,” Paulo Ciabatti, Ducati’s MotoGP Project Director, explains to motogp.com in an exclusive video interview.

“It has an advantage in terms of fuel; they will have 24 litres while the full MSMA MotoGP entries will have only 20, 12 engines instead of five and no frozen development for the engines.

“We think it could be an interesting package for some of the private or satellite teams and we are working on this plan. Ideally, we think we will make four available. We are discussing with some teams but nothing has been decided yet.”

Hoping to make final decisions on the matter by the Laguna Seca race weekend, Ciabatti confirmed that up to eight Ducati bikes (four as factory entries and four running as customer machines) could be on the grid next year.

“Theoretically, yes, but at the moment we are still talking to different teams and also talking to Pramac; it has been a long relationship with Paulo Campinoti and his team and we will obviously first find a solution with Pramac about next year and then discuss with other teams,” the Italian added.

Ahead of next season, Honda has put forward a proposal for running a 'production racer', although Ducati’s plan differs in that it intends to run modified versions of its current machine complete the universal Magneti Marelli ECU software.

Tom Cruise ends whirlwind visit to Taiwan

Taipei (ANTARA News/CNA) - Hollywood star Tom Cruise left Taiwan for the United States on Sunday (April 7) , ending his three-day whirlwind visit to the country to drum up interest in his new film.

Cruise left Taiwan on a personal plane after making appearances to promote his latest sci-fi action film "Oblivion," in which he plays a veteran in the future who will determine the fate of mankind.

During his stay, the actor visited a local restaurant to learn how to make its signature xiaolongbao, or small steamed buns, on Saturday and attended the premiere of his movie in Taipei that night, where he was greeted by some 2,000 passionate fans.

Local media and fans praised the movie star as "down-to-earth" and "sincere." Cruise spent more than two hours shaking the hands of fans and signing autographs on the red carpet before the premiere.

"I`m very excited to be here. I haven`t been here for many, many years, so it`s really nice to be here," Cruise told local TV channel Television Broadcasts Satellite (TVBS).

Taiwan was the only stop on Cruise`s film promotion tour in Asia. It was the 50-year-old actor`s third visit to Taiwan. His last visit was in 2001 to promote his sci-fi film "Vanilla Sky."

He is scheduled to attend a premiere in Los Angeles on April 10. (U.M016)

Jackie Chan leaves imprints in Hollywood for the second time

Los Angeles (ANTARA News/Reuters) - Chinese action film star Jackie Chan on Thursday became the first person to twice leave the imprints of his hands and feet in cement at Hollywood`s famed Chinese Theatre.

Chan, who has starred in some 150 films in a career spanning more than 40 years, first left imprints in the forecourt of the theater in 1997, adding to the collection that features screen legends from Clark Gable to Marilyn Monroe.

But over the years, as ownership of the theater changed hands, the cement slab featuring Chan`s prints was lost. Slabs are changed often to make room for new entries in the collection.

Representatives at the newly named TCL Chinese Theatre confirmed that Chan was the first two-time inductee. They said they did not know when the prints vanished but were sure that the slab was not stolen from the forecourt.

On Thursday Chan left imprints of his hands, feet and nose in cement, accompanied by his "Rush Hour" co-star Chris Tucker and "The Karate Kid" co-star Jaden Smith.

Chan, 59, told a crowd gathered for the occasion that he had always dreamed of having his prints in cement at the theater.

"My first time in the Chinese Theatre, I walked on the red carpet ... and I see that there are so many stars doing the interviews. And at that time I had nothing to do, standing there looking around," he said.

"During all those years I dreamed. Slowly, slowly, I got there," the actor said.

Chan has become one of China`s biggest film stars, crossing into Hollywood movies with his Kung Fu fighting skills and ability to do his own action stunts.

Last month at the Cannes film festival, Chan told Reuters that after countless broken bones and smashed teeth, he was giving up doing his own stunts but wanted to continue acting across different genres.(*)
