Usai melakoni kejuaraan dunia MotoGP di sirkuit Sachsenring Jerman, Valentino Rossi hanya mampu meraih posisi ke-8 di belakang Joan Mir. Kondisi tersebut tentu saja membuat pebalap yang dijuluku “The Doctor” ini menjadi frustasi. Pasalnya, dibandingkan pebalap Yamaha lain (kecuali Fabio Quartararo yang terjatuh), performanya paling buruk. Bahkan, dibandingkan dengan tahun lalu, catatan waktunya lebih lambat sekitar 20 detik.

Menurut Rossi yang dliansir oleh GridOto dan Crash.net, dirinya punya ekspetasi tinggi di Sachsenring, tetapi sepanjang latihan bebas hingga kualifikasi hasilnya tidak memuaskan alias kadang cepan dan kadang lambat. Walhasil, ketika balapan berlangsung hasilnya kurang memuaskan dan hanya mampu finis di urutan ke delapan.

Rossi sendiri masih bingung dengan penurunan performanya, terutama di empat Grand Prix terakhir dengan tiga kali gagal finis dan satu kali di urutan delapan. Rumor yang beredar para pebalap Yamaha memakai sasi yang berbeda dengan Rossi, sehingga mereka dapat memperoleh hasil lebih baik. Namun rumor ini tidak ditanggapi Rossi karena dia merasa tidak ada perbedaan dengan motor lain dan hanya masalah setup saja yang belum ditemukan solusinya (AG/01/2019).
