Deteksi Kerusakan Kiprok Sejak Dini

Kiprok atau istilah kerennya rectifier regulator adalah salah satu komponen pada sistem kelistrikan sepeda motor. Alat ini berfungsi sebagai pengubah atau penyearah arus AC/alternating current (arus bolak-balik) yang dihasilkan oleh spul menjadi DC/direct current (arus searah) untuk selanjutnya di simpan di aki.

Kiprok tidak selamanya beroperasi dengan baik sepanjang waktu. Dia dapat mengalami masalah atau bahkan kerusakan yang dapat menyebabkan pengisian aki tidak maksimal, berlebihan (overcharge) atau malah soak (tekor) sekalipun kondisi aki masih baru. Untuk mendeteksi bila sewaktu-waktu kiprok mengalami masalah, ada beberapa cara sederhana yang dapat dilakukan. Pertama, dapat dengan melihat cahaya yang dihasilkan lampu utama (depan). Apabila sistem penerangan mengandalkan spul, ketika putaran mesin tinggi tetapi lampu redup maka kemungkinan kiprok yang berfungsi sebagai penstabil arus yang dihasilkan oleh spul bermasalah.

Sedangkan cara kedua dapat mengandalkan sentuhan telapak tangan saja. Cara ini dapat dilakukan untuk memeriksa kondisi aki yang menggelembung (gendut) karena pengisian yang berlebihan alias overcharge akibat kiprok tidak bisa bisa memutus arus ketika aki penuh (full charge). Adapun caranya cukup dengan meraba kiprok. Apabila terlalu panas, maka bisa jadi itu adalah gejala overcharge
