‘Ghost Rider’ Returns to Haunt Cinemas

Somewhere in the middle of “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Ven geance,” Nicolas Cage pees flames. You read that right: The actor, famous for his questionably zany acting choices, goes into cuckoo overdrive, and urinating fire is just another box to tick on his loony-role checklist.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing — at least Cage seems to be immersed in the ecstatically delirious title role. The film thrives on his blazing pool of insanity, even if the story, acting and overall cheesiness results in a mess of a movie.

Directing duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (known to fans as Neveldine/Taylor), whose previous works include the equally frenetic “Crank” series, have little to count on other than the dive into lunacy taken by their leading man.

The story, for one, never takes form, and there’s little intrigue to be had within the central mystery. Something involving a demon-child and Johnny Blaze (Cage) trying to free himself of a curse barely provokes interest.

Cage has been quoted as saying there is a little bit of “The Da Vinci Code” mystery-solving in the script, but even by that novel’s loose standards and Tom Hanks’s hair, this sequel to the 2007 “Ghost Rider” falls short of a shrug. By the story’s end, the audience is hard-pressed to care about what demonic phenomenon does or does not occur.

Cage tries to infuse some personality into his alcoholic vagabond character Johnny Blaze, a former stunt-motorcyclist turned hellfire demon whose back-story is worthy of a Bruce Wayne-level of scrutiny.

This is, after all, a guy who made a bad deal with the devil for his dying father, the result being a still-dead father and a flaming skull for a head. But the story barely skips a beat before running off to the numerous action sequences.

The good and bad guys around Blaze don’t have much to offer either. There’s Fergus Riordan’s Danny, the child whose presence is the answer to all the questions hanging around the film (should you choose to indulge in a little elementary problem-solving). Riordan has little to do except switch between evil and nice-boy looks.

His mother, played by Italian singer-actress Violante Placido, has slightly more to do, but the script can’t decide whether to make her a tough sidekick or a damsel in distress.

The baddies — Ciaran Hinds as the devil and Johnny Whitworth as supervillain Blackout — are obviously talented, but they find no way to infuse any personality into their wooden characters, resulting in bad guys as interchangeable as the ones in the Rambo movies.

Respected English actor Idris Elba has some fun as Moreau, a French alcoholic priest and the film’s only character with enough traits to make up what might be called a “personality.”

Somewhere amid the sludge, Christopher Lambert has a small role as Methodius, a monk with a secret of his own and face tattoos that look like a wet Bible threw up on his face. The former “Highlander” actor seems to comprehend the puerile nature of his character, barely faking interest in trying to portray the monk with mysterious dignity.

This takes us back to the wild, wild Cage. Not since his feckless, effervescent turn in “The Wicker Man” remake has the actor looked more deranged in a role. Fortunately, what comes off as unintentional comedy in that film looks like blissful glee in “Spirit of Vengeance” (though admittedly there are some moments where Cage simply looks like an addict going cold turkey). The best thing that can be said about Cage’s performance is that there will be moments when you question whether what just transpired on screen was done with special effects, or if it was simply Cage’s really letting loose.

In the end, “Spirit of Vengeance” survives solely as a kind of cinematic freak show, with Cage as the main attraction. Everything else is utterly disposable. In the end I laughed at — or along with — Cage, providing enough entertainment to keep me awake. Let us just hope, for flaming-skull’s sake, that Cage is in on the joke.

If he isn’t, then Lord only knows how magnificent that “Drive Angry” sequel is going to be.

Starring Nicolas Cage, Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Johnny Whitworth, Fergus Riordan and Idris Elba

Was There A UFO in South Carolina?

Some residents of South Carolina received an initially terrifying awakening early Monday morning when their sky flashed bright blue and a large object was seen plummeting from the sky.

The unidentified flying object caught around Greenville county exploded in a few brief seconds causing an alarming boom that shook homes in several cities.
Over 30 emergency 911 calls were placed to at least one local police station while a number of fire fighters were dispatched before its mystery was solved.

'It sounds like a typical bolide,' Dr Charles St Lucas of the Roper Mountain Science Center told Fox4 of what he believes was a meteor, albeit early of their next expected shower in late April.

'This one broke apart into three or four different pieces, glowed a bright blue white,' he said calling its spontaneity, 'delightful.' With the sighting shortly before 2am, most residents didn't take it as coolly.

'I thought the aliens were coming,' one resident Cindie Stubbs told Fox4 with nervous excitement after witnessing the flash herself from above her home.

'I saw this big bright light that made the sand kind of almost sparkle it was so bright,' she said.

Bolides, according to the American Meteor Society, are a special type of fireball or astoundingly bright meteor. They are known for exploding before their landfall with a bright flash, similar to the blue one seen around Greenville.

Dr St Lucas told GoUpState.com that the blue coloring indicates that it was composed of copper or copper chloride. Being naturally occurring elements, it most likely wasn't falling 'space junk,' he reasons.

Injuries and damage from the sighting have not been reported.

Keep Your Eye on The Ball, David Beckham!

It must be hard to remain composed when the world is watching your every move. Especially when there are scantily-clad cheerleaders parading in front of you.

David Beckham was spotted looking a little flushed as a bevy of beauties walked past him and his boys at the LA Lakers game against the Phoenix Suns. While his wife Victoria was making sure her new collection had a successful launch in London, the footballer was enjoying a boys night out at the basketball.

Becks, 36, was accompanied by Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, and Cruz, six, at the Staples Centre. And both David and middle son Romeo were both caught taking in the sights from their courtside seats.

Becks and Romeo couldn't help but stare at one of the Lakers cheerleaders as she sashayed past them. He wore a brown T-shirt with jeans and a pair of shoes, with a wooly hat covering his hair.

The foursome looked like they were having a great time, fully engrossed in the game throughout. At one point David spoke with Spanish Lakers star Pau Gasol, who towered over him during their courtside conversation.

It's not the first time the LA Galaxy star has been caught with a wandering eye at a basketball match. In fact, ever since becoming a regular at the Staples Centre it seems David has enjoyed watching the cheerleaders perform their entertaining shows - as any red-blooded male would.

However, he has sometimes been accompanied by wife Victoria who has understandably kept a watchful eye on him. Meanwhile, only hours after wrapping up her work in New York after the city's fashion week, Victoria boarded a plane back to her homeland to launch her collection for London Fashion Week.

And she barely had time to catch her breath as she headed to department store Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge to throw a party to celebrate her new designs that went down a storm across the Pond.

She looked tired but managed to fight her fatigue as she faced a barrage of flashbulbs as she arrived at the store. And she was still her usual chic and professional self as she posed for the cameras in one of her own designs.

Lady Gaga Drives Fans Crazy In First Taiwan Concert

Taichung, Taiwan - Lady Gaga extended her very first performance in Taiwan on Sunday to tens of thousands of fans in ecstasy, singing five more songs than scheduled in a free concert.

CNA-OANA reports the American pop diva sang nine songs from her latest album "Born This Way" at Taichung City's Fulfillment Amphitheater in front of 6,000 people who luckily got tickets to the promotional show.

More than 30,000 people that could not get in also enjoyed the rare performance by watching two large screens put up outside the theatre. Some of them were satisfied with simply listening to the music and feeling the excitement in the air.

The international star opened the much-anticipated show in a sexy black thin sleeve-less dress, wowing the audience with her trademark wild dance and heavy-beat music.

Her "little monsters" were surprised by the singer's improvisation of the lyrics and spontaneous interaction with them, such as singing "Taiwan you and I" or stopping in the middle of a sentence to let fans finish singing the rest.

She said the flags printed with her album cover on the streets and a huge screen playing one of her music videos made her very happy.

"That made me so happy, so thank you." In the one-hour long concert, Lady Gaga mentioned "Taiwan" for at
least five times, either in her songs or in her talks. "(I was) very very very very excited to see Gaga and I hope she will come give a concert in Taiwan next time," said Pierre Fu, a man in special costume inspired by his idol.

He added the whole concert was so very unique that it was impossible to choose a favorite part.

"Amazing. Only this word can describe it. She was fantastic and very friendly," said Natashia Lee.

She said the concert "doubled" her imagination "I think she performed with utmost sincerity and beyond, just as what she promised earlier--she put 150 percent preparation into the concert."

The diva is scheduled to give a press conference in Taipei Monday before leaving Taiwan the next day. (ANT.U.C003)

Amy Winehouse duet with Tony Bennett going to charity

Los Angeles - A duet between jazz great Tony Bennett and the late singer Amy Winehouse is being released as a single to benefit a charity established by her father, Bennett`s spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

The classic pop standard "Body and Soul" that Winehouse recorded with Bennett in March is one of her last works. She died unexpectedly at age 27 on July 23, after a long battle with alcohol and drugs.

An official cause of death for Winehouse has not been determined. Her father, Mitch, is creating a foundation in her name to help drug addicts.

Proceeds from Bennett and Winehouse`s "Body and Soul" recording, which is being released as a single, will go to the foundation, said Liz Rosenberg, a spokeswoman for Bennett.

The song will also appear on Bennett`s "Duets II" CD to be released on Sept. 20.

Bennett, a Grammy winning jazz legend whose biggest songs include "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and "Rags to Riches," celebrated his 85th birthday on Wednesday.

He recorded "Body and Soul" with Winehouse at the Abbey Road Studios in London, and has credited her for her abilities as a jazz singer.

Grammy winner Winehouse was famed for her black beehive hair and soulful voice, and is best known for her 2006 song "Rehab" that summed up her struggles with addiction.

Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis near split

Los Angeles - Johnny Depp`s 14-year romance with French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis has hit the rocks, People magazine claimed on Wednesday, and the couple are living largely separate lives.

In a cover story for this week`s issue of People called "Love Gone Wrong", the celebrity magazine quoted several unnamed sources as saying the pair`s relationship is nearing an end.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star (48) and Paradis (39) never married but have been together since 1998 and have two children. They divide their time between France and the United States.

People magazine noted that the pair have not appeared on the red carpet together for more than a year, missing both the Cannes film festival in May 2011 and the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills on Sunday, where Depp was a presenter.

"According to multiple sources....(they) are all but officially finished," People said.

Depp`s representatives did not return calls for comment on the People story, which hits newsstands on Friday.(V003)

Microsoft's New Phones Could Run The Same Apps as PCs

Leaks from within Microsoft have revealed a suite of hi-tech new features for Microsoft's Windows Phone - including new software that will let the phones share apps with Windows PCs.

A video, of Windows Phone chief Joe Belfiore, and supposedly for consumption by Microsoft's partner Nokia, lists a variety of hi-tech features due in a forthcoming update to Windows Phone software. The key feature is that apps can be shared more easily with Windows PCs, in the same way as software is shared across Apple's iPhone and iPad.

Windows Phone will use much of the same software as Microsoft's upcoming tablet-friendly Windows 8, making it easier for developers to create applications that work on both. Microsoft hopes to have 100,000 apps available at launch.

The video was seen by website PocketNow, but other tech insiders who have seen Windows Phone 8 have confirmed several details. Analysts iSuppli have predicted that Microsoft's Windows Phone will overtake Apple's iPhone by 2015.

Nokia, which has partnered with Microsoft to produce smartphones running Windows Phone, has sold a million handsets since launch, beating analyst expectations. The new software, codenamed Apollo, should appear in new Nokia handsets, although there is no confirmed release date.

The devices will also offer SkyDrive - a remote-storage function which allows users to store files such as digital music online, then access them from any device. It could mean that Windows users will be able to access their entire music collection instantly without having to sync their devices with a PC.

The update will also add support for new screen resolutions and will add an NFC (near field communication) chip for contactless payments in shops. Microsoft are describing this as 'the wallet experience'.

So far, Windows Phone has remained niche, despite fan and reviewer enthusiasm for the operating system. Last year, Windows Phone accounted for just two per cent of the smartphone market.

But by 2015, that figure will be 16.7 per cent, says iSuppli - putting the handsets into second place in the worldwide smartphone race, behind Google's Android, but ahead of Apple's iOS.

Demi Moore's darkest hour

Following a panicked 911 call for paramedics to attend to a 49-year-old woman - who turned out to be Demi Moore - suffering from convulsions and seizures after she "smoked something" according to her friends, the world got a shocking glimpse into the dark, sordid life the millionaire actress has been living since her split from husband number three, Ashton Kutcher.

Having recently exhibited behaviour that would appear shocking in a woman half her age, Demi had been hitting the LA party circuit with her 23-year-old daughter, Rumer, and apparently indulging in drugs a source derided as "what teenagers take for cheap thrills", as well as refusing to eat and consuming can after can of caffeine-heavy Red Bull. And sources have since come forward to insist that the G.I. Jane star had recently added Adderall into the mix, a drug used to treat ADHD, but which celebrities have welcomed into their prescription drugs arsenal thanks to its appetite-suppressing side effects.

Scene delves into what led Demi to go so wildly off the rails, and reveals whether Ashton's departure is behind the self-destructive pattern, or whether it was her secret life that drove him into other women's arms…

What was she on?

With the 911 callers all admitting that Demi had started convulsing after having "smoked" a substance, one female on the line told the dispatcher, "It's not marijuana. It's similar to incense", revealing that the drug had sent the mother-of-three into "convulsions," a semi-conscious state and that she was "burning up."

And Hollywood-watchers began to piece together what it was the actress took, with most agreeing that it wasa synthetic cannabis known as ‘K2,' ‘Spice' or ‘herbal incense'.

"It's a relaxed high. People who aren't used to it can feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Others feel relaxed physically," Dr John Sharp, MD, faculty member of Harvard Medical School told Us. With Dr David Sack, MD, CEO of Promises addiction treatment centre in Malibu, adding, "We see a lot of emergency room visits related to ‘Spice' because people start to feel unreal or they hallucinate, or they are very sedated so they become frightened and they have panic attacks."

Also said to have inhaled nitrous oxide - known as ‘Whip-it' - one source insisted, "Whip-it is not a common drug among people of Demi's age and social status. It's typically used by younger people who are looking for a cheap thrill."

And Demi's reaction to the drug is said to have been exacerbated by a lack of food and consumption of Adderall, with an insider spilling, "Demi has been taking Adderall and drinking energy drinks and starving herself and those are some of the serious causes that led her to collapse on Monday night. The pills and starvation destroyed Demi and this has been a problem for about a year." Adding, "She's constantly jacked up on Adderall and combining that with not eating accounts for her loopy behaviour and anorexic body frame. She literally refuses to eat any food."

Behaving like a teenager

With the phone passed between three different people during the 911 call which saw Demi rushed to hospital, the ‘friends' didn't know Demi's age, nor her address when speaking to the ambulance dispatcher - tellingly revealing that the actress appears to be hanging out with a crew of hangers-on who know little about her.

And reports have emerged that the actress was spotted out partying in LA at celeb-fave haunt, Beacher's Madhouse, with daughter Rumer, and Rumer's friends, just weeks before her hospitalisation.

"When she first arrived, she kept to herself... but she started loosening up and getting into party mode," spilled a party-goer, adding that Demi knocked back around 12 cans of Red Bull during the night. "She seemed really happy to be out with her daughter's friends."

And Demi also spent the night eyeing up another toyboy, Rumer's House Bunny co-star, 90210 actor, Ryan Rottman, 27. "She found ways to touch him all night, and at one point when he was in front of her, she was grinding [up against him]," spilled an onlooker. "His shirt came unbuttoned, and she started tickling his bare chest playfully."

Is Ashton vindicated?

After a friend of the New Year's Eve star said that although Ashton was "deeply concerned" about his ex-wife and "still cares about her" but "their marriage is ending and they are both moving on with their lives", the star was slammed for his apparent coldness, until other sources stepped forward to reveal that the actress's troubles had begun long before they wed.

Demi went through a highly publicised trip to rehab back in the 80s, when her St Elmo's Fire director, Joel Schumacher, ordered her to get help or be kicked off the set; and entering rehab for drug and alcohol abuse, the actress managed to kick her addiction to alcohol, instead replacing it with caffeine-packed energy drinks. But sources claim that the actress increasingly turned to prescription drugs in recent years - something her husband of six years, Ashton, struggled to deal with.

"Ashton and Demi both like to party, but she tends to wear it all over her. She can talk too much, get verbally abusive and weigh on your nerves," revealed a friend of the pair, last year. Adding that the Two And A Half Men actor was "embarrassed" when Demi famously got on stage and danced during a Snoop Dogg concert in Las Vegas back in August 2010. Watch it here

"[The prescription drugs] were a sticking point for Ashton," spilled a pal. "He wanted her to take care of herself and get a hold of things, and she wouldn't."

"Ashton has no excuses about his alleged infidelities," insisted a Hollywood-watcher. "But if Demi's behaviour is indicative of what he had to endure throughout their relationship, there are going to be people who will see his actions as those of a man at the end of his tether."

But despite most industry insiders agreeing that Demi's marriage ending was a major catalyst in her behaviour, one pal insisted, "This is not just about Ashton. I'm sure Ashton would like to think it's all about him."

Should we sympathise?

With her rep having cited the fooling-no-one excuse of "exhaustion" for Demi choosing to "seek professional assistance to… improve her overall health", friends have come forward to insist that the 49-yerar-old actress deserves our sympathy because of the "struggle" the millionaire actress faces in Hollywood.

"What she's going through now is not just things not working out with Ashton. It's really more about the toll it takes on an ambitious woman in this town," said one. "Meaning constantly having to prove you're not just a pretty face, but a talented actor, as well. Constantly having to prove you're a good mother, not just a celebutante around town who goes to parties instead of looking after her family. Having to stay sober in a town that's so not. Demi's had a fight in her for many years, before Ashton ever came along."

Whilst another blamed that Tinseltown symptom of pride for the star's downfall - "Demi has had too much pride to come clean about her issues. She wouldn't allow people to talk to her about them."

"She's obviously struggling with some serious emotional issues. Her husband was a disappointment. She's approaching 50, a member of a social order that values youth and the superficial, torn between paying lip service to ‘inner beauty' and yet incapable of submitting to the standards of a shallow industry," said Etalk's Elaine Lui. "And she exists in a reality that's so fragile, supported by fakery and pretension, it cannot support itself when things do go wrong. I do feel bad for her about this. I do." Adding, "But still I am having a hard time suppressing the schadenfreude in favour of sympathy. Didn't [Demi] invite [us] inside when [she] gratuitously tweeted shots of [her][ tight body? Didn't [she] move from Hailey, Idaho, where [she] spent several years away from the glare of the business, taking pleasure in obscurity, only to eagerly return to the cesspool of fame? We are increasingly demanding honesty from our celebrities. I wonder though if it's unreasonable to withhold compassion until that honesty is forthcoming." (Gemma White)

A day of Al Dah

Dubai: Emirati welterweight Eisa Al Dah beat Mexico's Miguel Angel Munguia Garcia in an unanimous points decision at Thursday night's 10-card Dubai International Boxing Championship inside Dubai Tennis Stadium.

Winning 58-54, 59-54, 59-53, 33-year-old Al Dah has now taken his fight record to eight wins and two losses in 10 appearances, while 29-year-old Munguia now has 22 wins 23 losses and one draw to his name in 46 fights.

Al Dah looked to struggle early, brought to his knees in the second, but the ‘Arabian Warrior' returned to form in the third and fourth of this six round contest to twice floor ‘Flaco'.

Weak and tired
Munguia re-composed himself to go the distance while a tiring Al Dah held out for the decision and didn't risk an offensive. "I think people were expecting me to throw a lot of punches and look for the knockout but this was not the strategy to win this particular fight," Al Dah said.

"When he hit me in the liver, it shut down my entire body and made me weak and affected all my power, speed and energy.

Recovery

"I recovered but tried to conserve my energy after that shot and didn't throw so many punches. I kept my distance, covered my face and tried to avoid his strong left hook right. I knew heading into this fight I would have to combat his power punches with my speed.

"When you fight a Mexican, you have to protect yourself at all times and when he hit me, I went dizzy. He confused me with his switching between southpaw and orthodox and he comes from a high altitude so has good conditioning.

"I felt his experience, threw a few good shots but he didn't give me a chance. I looked for the knockout, it didn't happen but nevertheless I am happy with the win. This has been my toughest contest yet and as fights progress they will get tougher."

Munguia said: "I was prepared for the fight and in the end lost only by one or two points. It was a really great fight I'm not too disappointed to have lost really. He's a great fighter with good experience and a good right hook."

McAfee Fake Alert Stinger 10.2.0.207

Fake-Alert software, also called fake AV or rogue anti-virus software, is malware that masquerades as a legitimate security application. These threats employ social engineering tactics to trick users into purchasing and installing malicious products. Once installed, a system scan will run that subsequently claims that the machine is infected. Other nefarious activity is occurring in the background, including the disabling of legitimate security applications.

The Fake Alert Stinger uses “Super Scan” mode for detection and remediation targeted specifically at fake-alert threats.

Super Scan achieves the following:

Terminates malicious processes that hinder anti-virus software from running properly
Restarts the Windows Explorer process to remove any hooks created by malware to prevent re-infections
Fixes file associations and other registry-based policies that are typically altered by fake-alert threats to remain active or to prevent normal use of system tools

In summary, Super Scan brings an infected system to a state that allows anti-virus software to scan and remediate effectively.

Sources inside Apple's Chinese supplier Foxconn have said that a new iPhone will have a four inch - or larger - screen. Several samples of the device are already under test, says the 'reliable' source, speaking to Apple blog 9to5Mac.

The rumour would lend credibility to the idea that Apple is plotting a summer launch for its new handset. If the company is at the prototype stage already, launch could be very soon.

The final model has not been selected, but all of them are significantly different from the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. None have the 'teardrop' shape that some Apple-watchers predicted for the new model.

'The source said various sample devices are also floating around - they vary slightly from one another - so it is impossible to tell which one will be the final,' said 9to5Mac.

The four-inch screen has been one of the most persistent rumours about Apple's upcoming smartphone - and would make sense, as it would take Apple's flagship device into line with rivals such as Samsung's Galaxy S2.

The relatively modest update last year from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S means that most Apple-watchers agree that a new model is inevitable - and many point to this summer for a likely launch date.

Sources inside Apple accessory companies also say that iPad 3 will not be an overhaul of the product, with cases and other accessories at the same size as ones for iPad 2.

That would leave the stage clear for a 'big' overhaul of iPhone this summer. At an earnings call this week, chief executive Tim Cook, who replaced Apple founder Steve Jobs hinted at future gadgets, which are rumoured to include a March release of the iPad 3 and a possible iPhone update.

He said:'Apple's momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.'

And the group reported record quarterly revenues of $46.33billion (£29.7 billion), up from $26.74billion (£17.1 billion) a year earlier. The stellar results sent the shares 6 per cent or $27 higher to almost $448 today.

The company has avoided any damage from a clampdown in consumer spending and a surge in competition from smartphone manufacturers and new tablet computers, such as the November launch of Amazon's Kindle Fire

The Marco Simoncelli Foundation becomes a reality

"The Marco Simoncelli Foundation" began as an idea of Carlo Pernat (Simoncelli’s manager) and was immediately embraced by the Simoncelli family, who worked quickly to make the foundation a legal reality.

"We completed all of the paperwork in a very short time," said Paolo Simoncelli, "and we are ready to start work." The president of the foundation will be Marco’s mother Rossella, while Paolo Simoncelli’s sister Martina and Dr. Arnaldo Cappellini will sit on the board of directors. Sister Martina and girlfriend Kate, with assistance from Carlo Pernat and Paolo Beltramo (Mediaset MotoGP journalist and friend) will offer their assistance.

"We already have several initiatives underway. For example, on January 20 an event titled 'Happy Birthday Sic' will be held at the 105 Stadium in Rimini, an evening designed for fun as my son would have liked. There will be comedians from the TV show Zelig on stage and many of Simoncelli’s friends from the GP paddock are also expected to show up. We are also working on an exhibition dedicated to Marco in the City of Coriano, managed directly by the Foundation. We are just getting started and we're surrounded by positivity that was so typical of Marco, positivity that affected everyone around him and made him an extraordinary person."

"The basic premise of the Foundation," explained Paolo Simoncelli, "is that through keeping the memory of Marco alive we can help alleviate suffering of those who are worse off than us. It is hard for me to say where and how the funds raised will be distributed, since I cannot assess how much we will have available as time goes by. One thing is certain; I will try and manage all this as a good father."

"We received a huge number of messages of affection for Marco" added Paolo Simoncelli, "and this has helped and continues to help us overcome the difficult times that we live with daily. Seeing how many people loved our son has helped us go on and we believe that ‘The Marco Simoncelli Foundation’ represents the best way to remember him in the future."

Repsol names Moto3 riders, aims for all three titles in 2012

Repsol has announced it will back Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira in the new Moto3 World Championship - and is thus aiming to win riders' world titles in all three grand prix classes next year.

Repsol, which has more than 40 years of experience in sport sponsorship, won this year's MotoGP title with Honda's Casey Stoner and finished a close runner-up in the Moto2 class with Suter rider Marc Marquez.

Both Stoner and Marquez will remain in Repsol colours for 2012, as will Stoner's MotoGP team-mate Dani Pedrosa (fourth this season with three wins).

Repsol's Moto3 hopes will be in the hands of two 16-year-olds, but both Rins and Oliveira are highly rated.

Rookie Rins is the reigning Spanish (CEV) 125cc champion, while Oliveira already has 11 grand prix starts under his belt and won the last two CEV races using a 250cc four-stroke Moto3 bike for the Monlau Competición Team.

Repsol has also announced that Alex Marquez, younger brother of Marc and runner-up in the 2011 CEV 125cc title to team-mate Rins, will enter 'some races' as a wild-card in 2012.

This will be combined with a full title assault in the CEV Moto3 series.

The last time Repsol participated in the smallest (125cc) class of grand prix motorcycling was in 2010, when the team won the championship with Marc Marquez.

Dovizioso undergoes collarbone surgery

Andrea Dovizioso is beginning along the road to recovery after undergoing a successful surgery on his broken collarbone.

The Italian, who injured himself during a Motocross training accident, took to his Twitter account after going under the knife, stating, “After about 1 hour under surgery I am like new!”

Dovizioso now has just over three weeks to make a full recovery before pre-season MotoGP testing gets underway at Sepang on January 31st, the Italian riding for new employer's Tech 3 Yamaha.

However, while doctors have urged Dovizioso to be careful with the injury, his team manager Herve Poncharal is confident that he will be back to his best by the time he gets aboard the YZR-M1.

Valentino Rossi wins on ice as Wrooom 2012 ends

Ducati MotoGP star Valentino Rossi beat Ferrari F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in a kart race on ice as Wrooom 2012 came to a close on Friday evening at Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.

Rossi - who suffered his first winless grand prix season in 2011 - began the kart race from pole and went on to take victory ahead of Massa, with Alonso recovering to third after an early crash.

Massa then restored some F1 pride by getting the better of seven time MotoGP champion Rossi in the following Fiat 500 car race, in which double Formula One champion Alonso was again third.

“It was really fantastic,” said Rossi. “I practice a lot with karts in the summer, and it was great to drive on the ice, especially because it was much colder this time than it was last year, so the track held up well. Felipe was faster than I was, but anyway, it was a great night. I enjoyed myself.”

Ferrari test drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Marc Gene, plus Rossi's sidekick Uccio also took part in the exhibition races.

Rossi's team-mate Nicky Hayden was unable to race due to his recent shoulder and rib injuries.

The 2012 Ducati Desmosedici, which was not seen at this week's press event, will now undergo a shakedown test before being handed to Rossi and Hayden for the start of the Sepang test on January 31.

Adam Lambert says 'lesson learned' after arrest

Former American Idol finalist Adam Lambert brushed off his arrest in Finland last Thursday, blaming his bad behaviour on travel, booze and ''irrational confusion'' and adding ''lesson learned'' on Twitter.

''Jetlag+Vodka=blackout. Usblackout=irrational confusion. jail+guilt+press=lesson learned. Sauli+Adam+hangover burgers= laughing bout it. :),'' Lambert tweeted to fans.

The Whataya Want From Me singer, 29, was involved in an argument in a Helsinki bar with his boyfriend, Finnish reality TV star Sauli Koskinen. Their quarrel became physical and the pair were arrested, questioned then later released by authorities, according to media reports.

Koskinen also addressed the incident on his blog, writing in Finnish, ''publicity is not easy. But celebrities are only human people''.

Lambert, whose colourful costumes and make-up earned him the nickname ''Glambert'', rose to fame in 2009 on US singing contest American Idol, but lost in the final round of the US's No.1-rated TV show to Kris Allen.

Despite being the runner-up, Lambert forged a solid career and now enjoys a loyal following as a singer. His single Better Than I Know Myself was released last Tuesday, and is currently at No.30 on the iTunes singles chart. _ Piya Sinha-Roy

Man United ousts holder City from FA Cup

Manchester United took a measure of revenge on neighbor Manchester City on Sunday by knocking the defending champion out of the FA Cup with a 3-2 victory marked by Paul Scholes coming out of retirement.

Wayne Rooney headed in two goals either side of Danny Welbeck's volley in a dominant first-half in the third round match, which saw City Vincent Kompany sent off for fouling Nani in the 12th minute.

But the hosts, which humiliated United with a 6-1 league victory at Old Trafford this year and beat their rival in last year's FA Cup semifinals, staged a second-half comeback with Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero scoring to ensure a nervy end for the visitors.

The 37-year-old Scholes came out of retirement on Sunday morning and replaced Nani in the second half, but gave away the ball that led to Aguero's 65th minute-goal.

Madrid, Barca focus on league as clasicos near

Real Madrid and Barcelona will have to try their best to overlook their upcoming cup clasicos and focus on this weekend's league matches first.

Madrid and Barcelona meet for the eighth time since April come Wednesday's Copa del Rey first-leg quarterfinal, but have league matches against Mallorca and Real Betis, respectively.

Coach Jose Mourinho warned his team of looking beyond Mallorca, calling the championship a "priority" with Madrid having opened up a five-point lead over Barcelona.

"Last year we lost two points in Mallorca and it could happen again. It's a very dangerous game," Mourinho said on Friday. "We've got a game against Mallorca first, there's no point in talking about Barcelona now."

Captain Iker Casillas doesn't want his team to "obsess" over Barcelona, with the onslaught of clasicos saturating the magnitude of one of world football's biggest derbies.

"Last year we played four Real Madrid-Barcelonas in 20 days. We have already played the Super Cup, the league and now the Copa del Rey, and we'll play the two-legged series looking to reach the next round," Casillas said.

"But, in my opinion, with so many games, sometimes this series seems a little less than full strength, like decaf."

Madrid will be without injured players Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira for Saturday's game at Mallorca. Fabio Coentrao could start, with the Portugal fullback yet to prove himself since a (euro) 30 million ($38 million) off season move from Benfica.

Barcelona, meanwhile, returns to the Camp Nou where it has won eight of nine games and outscored opponents 39-0.

"We can't throw away the league," Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano said on Friday. "There are still 63 points available and many things can happen."

Forward Pedro Rodriguez is a doubt for Sunday's game with Betis after injuring his left leg in Thursday's cup win over Osasuna, while defender Andreu Fontas damaged ligaments in his right knee in the victory and is set for surgery. Fullback Daniel Alves missed the match as a precaution and could return at the Camp Nou, where Xavi Hernandez is set to make his 400th league appearance for the club.

Coach Pep Guardiola may have to call on some of the club's younger players to reinforce the squad, with Andres Iniesta also missing the match at Osasuna to rest an ankle knock.

"The youth team players will have to be prepared because we're going to have to call them up to fill the spots in the first team,"Guardiola said.

Villarreal is desperate for its first victory in 10 games as the club sits 18th in the last drop spot traveling to Atletico Madrid on Sunday in a matchup of new coaches seeking their first victories. Atletico's Diego Simeone returns to Vicente Calderon for the first time since his playing days hile counterpart Jose Francisco Molina also earned a draw in his debut last week.

In other 19th-round matches, it's: Zaragoza vs. Getafe; Granada vs Rayo Vallecano; Sevilla vs. Espanyol; Valencia vs. Real Sociedad; Osasuna vs. Racing Santander; Athletic Bilbao vs. Levante; and Sporting Gijon vs. Malaga.
