Honda World Superbike Team rider Jonathan Rea scored the fastest lap of the second free practice session with a 1 minute 28.856 second lap, leaving it very late to overhaul 2011 Champion Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati). Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) continued his good form with third fastest lap, with top overall qualifier Jakub Smrz (Liberty Effenbert Racing Team Ducati) fourth in this session.
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) had his best lap spoiled as he came across a back marker at the hairpin, while a former local resident Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) was sixth. The top 16 riders from combined qualifying now go forward to Tissot-Superpole later this afternoon.
