Vettel gears up for celebratory run in Berlin

Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel will take to the streets of Berlin this weekend, as he celebrates his title success in front of his home fans. Vettel is expected to drive a Red Bull down the city’s famous ‘Fan Mile’ in front of the iconic Brandenburg Gate on Saturday, before journeying to Dusseldorf for this weekend’s Race of Champions.

“I've always wanted to race through the streets of Berlin and on Saturday I’ll actually get to do it!” Vettel told his official website. “We'll turn the area between the Brandenburg Gate and Yitzhak Rabin Street into a pit and put the pedal to the metal! This is just my way of saying thanks to all my German fans for their support and their dedication throughout the whole season.

“Not everyone is able to see a Formula One racing car in action, so I think this is a great opportunity for everyone who wants to experience it. Besides the show run there will also be a drivers' parade, a stunt ride and the Red Bull Tourbus, so there should be something for everyone. I hope we'll have a great day and a spectacular weekend at the Race of Champions.”

Since his championship win in Abu Dhabi earlier this month, Vettel has visited Red Bull’s Austrian base in Salzburg and the team’s UK factory in Milton Keynes to celebrate his success. Last Sunday the young German also found time to visit his home town of Heppenheim to meet and greet thousands of fans.

Franz Tost Talks Toro Rosso’s Winter Plans

There hasn’t been an enormous amount of news over the past two days, but boss of Toro Rosso, Franz Tost, has been talking quite a lot. First up, he’s been bigging up Jaime Alguersuari, with this: “I think that he learned this season how to set up the car, how to drive the car, and I’m looking forward to the next season because I think he has matured enough to continue improving himself.” Good news. No mention of Buemi though. Franz Tost did point out that for the team to do better, it’s not just about improvement from the drivers, but also the car. He admitted they’ve got a long off-season ahead, with lots of hard work to do over the winter. He added: “We have a lot of work in front of us, but hopefully all these tasks we have set up. we will find a successful solution for them.”

Finally, in non-Toro Rosso news, Mario Theissen has left as boss of BMW. They’re not in F1 anymore, but Theissen is stepping down before the manufacturer joins in the DTM series. (Christine)

Red Bull Dominate Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi

We’ve had two days of young driver testing in Abu Dhabi, starting yesterday, with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo posting the fastest time of the day. No one could match him on pace, but it was potential Williams driver Pastor Maldonado who completed the most laps – touring the circuit 108 times. The second day of testing, today, once again saw Ricciardo untouchable at the top, although at one point Sam Bird was managing to keep up with him. There were a few more red flags today as well, but no major incidents.

Meanwhile, Renault are still pondering their second driver for 2011, and team boss Eric Boullier will take his time assessing Petrov’s potential. He says: “His performance in Abu Dhabi will be a positive in our consideration. But we still have to sit down and I want to make sure my mind is fresh to think over the situation. There are still some frustrations but I have to consider the global package.” He suggests an announcement will be made in the next month or so.

UBS and Formula 1™ announce Global Partnership

UBS and Formula 1™ today announced that they have signed an agreement for UBS to become a Global Partner of Formula 1™. The partnership will be formally launched at the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, which runs from 24 to 26 September, 2010.

The agreement follows a comprehensive evaluation by UBS of the commercial benefits of all global sponsorship properties. Formula 1™ is a year round, highly visible, and popular sport with an especially strong presence in many of UBS’s key growth markets such as Asia, Middle East and Latin America. The long-term partnership will provide excellent branding and hospitality opportunities that fit with UBS’s global footprint and business strategy.

Key benefits of the partnership include;
- Global reach: currently 19 events in 18 countries on 4 continents
- Growth markets: Formula 1™ is present and growing strongly in strategically important markets for UBS such as Asia, Middle East and Latin America
- Brand awareness: global television audience in 2009 of more than 520 million people across 187 countries; making Formula 1™ one of the most-watched annual sports in the world
- Client entertainment: fascinating opportunities for key client hospitality across the globe
- Year round presence: Formula 1™ season lasts eight months of the year

Oswald Grübel, UBS Group Chief Executive, said:“UBS has been searching for a global sponsorship platform that has appeal to our clients, promotes our brand globally and makes good commercial sense. Our new partnership with one of the largest and most popular sporting organizations in the world will fulfil all these criteria, and it constitutes a key element of our newly launched branding activities. The global reach of F1™ complements the many local activities we support."

Bernie Ecclestone, Group CEO of Formula 1™, said:“UBS is a global company where performance, teamwork and superior execution are integral to their clients’ success. These values complement those of Formula 1™ and I’m delighted to welcome UBS to Formula 1™.”

In line with all commercial contracts, the financial terms of the agreement will not be disclosed by UBS or Formula 1™. Commercial attractiveness was however a key consideration for UBS and the agreement compares favourably with other forms of brand awareness and client hospitality.
