We’ve had two days of young driver testing in Abu Dhabi, starting yesterday, with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo posting the fastest time of the day. No one could match him on pace, but it was potential Williams driver Pastor Maldonado who completed the most laps – touring the circuit 108 times. The second day of testing, today, once again saw Ricciardo untouchable at the top, although at one point Sam Bird was managing to keep up with him. There were a few more red flags today as well, but no major incidents.
Meanwhile, Renault are still pondering their second driver for 2011, and team boss Eric Boullier will take his time assessing Petrov’s potential. He says: “His performance in Abu Dhabi will be a positive in our consideration. But we still have to sit down and I want to make sure my mind is fresh to think over the situation. There are still some frustrations but I have to consider the global package.” He suggests an announcement will be made in the next month or so.
