Guerrero apologises for fan incident

Hamburger SV striker Paolo Guerrero has admitted throwing a bottle at a fan who was shouting abuse at him was the biggest mistake of his career.

The Peruvian threw a plastic bottle in the face of a fan as he left the pitch following his side’s 0-0 draw with Hannover 10 days ago.

His actions saw him fined heavily by his club and banned for five matches by the German Football Association.

“That was the biggest mistake of my career,” Guerrero said in Sport Bild magazine.

“I am still horrified when I see the pictures. I still can’t understand my reaction.

“Something like that has never happened to me. I am normally not an impulsive person.”

Guerrero’s contract at the HSV Arena runs out at the end of the season, but, despite the incident, he is confident they will offer him a new deal.

“I am certain that the club will do something so I stay,” he added.

60 paragliding athletes to attend Indonesia tournament

Jakarta - Sixty paragliding athletes from eight countries have registered for taking part in a tournament dubbed "Indonesia Open" to be held in Sigi District of Central Sulawesi, on June 18 to 25, a media reported here on Monday.

The eight countries are Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, France, Russia and the Philippines, FX Murdianto, chairman of the Central Sulawesi Aero Sport Federation (FASI) was quoted by Antara news wire as saying.

The athletes have confirmed their intention to participate in the competition which would consist of two cross-country flight numbers.

RI martial arts athletes to train in China

Semarang, Central Java - Indonesian martial arts athletes from the national training center will undergo training in China for three months before competing in the 26th Southeast Asian Games in South Sumatra and Jakarta in November.

Martial arts coach from Central Java Rony Syaifullah said when contacted to confirm it here on Thursday said they would start training in China as of June.

However, he said, before they started training there martial arts organization officials would first conduct a survey there.

He said a total of 32 martial arts athletes would take part in the training in China. "Right now 37 athletes are undergoing training at the national training center. The number will later be reduced by five," he said.

He said China has been chosen to become the training ground because Indonesia wished to learn their method of training as kung fu is also played there. "Before the SEA Games in 2007 Indonesian martial art fighters also trained in China," he said.

Asked about the number of martial art athletes to be fielded in the SEA Games later he said the main team would consist of 24 men`s and women`s fighters.

They would participate in 18 matches including double and group events, he said.

He said as Indonesia would be the host the country`s martial art fighters must become the champion.

"We have not yet determined how many gold medals we have to win in order to become the general champion as we still have yet to see rivals` strength," he said.

He said based on the Asian martial art competition in Singapore recently Indonesia`s rival would likely come from Vietnam and Malaysia.

In the Asian championship in Singapore Indonesia won five gold and four silver medals. "We indeed did not participate in all events. We hid our fighters for six matches and so did Malaysia and Vietnam," he said. (T.H015/Uu.H-YH/HAJM/B003)
