Noteliner 3.3

Noteliner helps you structure and track your work; it provides a place to record meeting and conversation notes, manage todos, and store key project information that might otherwise be scattered about. It is a simple tool that will not slow you down, but will give you a means to stay on top of what you need to do and remember.

I developed it originally about 15 years ago and have updated it every few years. From time to time I´ve looked for other tools to help me keep track of all the things that I need to do at work but I have found them either too cumbersome–creating work rather than reducing it–or too basic. For no particular reason in early 2010 I decided to clean it up and see if others might find it useful (I´ve continued to update it since then). I hope you do!

Noteliner lets you create a hierarchy of notes. You can give these notes follow-up dates, indicate which ones need attention, assign people, prioritize, or mark them complete. Different views allow you to see all the notes assigned to a particular person, those that need follow-up, attention or are dated. You can also specify which notes are part of a To-Do list and then view all To-Dos across your projects along with other items that need attention.

It is very stable. It saves every minute if changes are made, I haven´t lost data in over a decade. I use it every day at work. I run it on Windows XP but it should be fine on Windows 2000 and more recent. Its written in Visual C++ so it is fast and light weight.

What´s New in version 3.3:
* Improved Navigation Pane (auto-refresh, drag to, resize)
* Page Styles & Formatting

* Navigate Back and Forward

Stoner secures twelfth pole of season

2011 MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner has continued his dominant form to secure his twelfth pole position of the season, equalling Mick Doohan's record, and will start from the front of the grid for the final race of the season in Valencia.

With two minutes of the qualifiying session remaining the Australian set a 1.31.861 to cement pole position with a 1.014s lead over Repsol Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa in second.

Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) managed to pick up the pace in the final moments of the session to qualify in third, pushing a consistent Randy De Puniet (Pramac Racing Team) back on to the second row in fourth, ahead of Alvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) in fifth, who had also put in an impressive performance in the practice sessions.

Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) completes the second row, qualifying in sixth place ahead of team mate Nicky Hayden in seventh.

Andrea Dovizioso suffered a big crash on his final lap that sent the Repsol Honda rider tumbling into the gravel trap, but the Italian walked away and will start tomorrow's race in eighth.

Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) qualified in eleventh place, behind Hector Barbera (Mapfre Aspar) in ninth and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) in tenth.

Crescent Suzuki poised to confirm WSB future

The British-based Crescent Suzuki Racing team are expected to confirm their switch to WSB in 2012. As reported in MCN this week, the current BSB squad have been in on-going discussions with WSB bosses about graduating to the world championship.

The BSB runner-ups proved themselves when they competed as wild cards at this year’s Silverstone WSB round where rider John Hopkins set pole position and secured a top five finish.

Team manager Jack Valentine spent last weekend in Portimao for the final round of WSB and told MCN that his team is more than capable of making an impact on the world scene.

Valentine also confirmed that regardless of whether they race in BSB or WSB it would be a two-man team and given the team’s pedigree they would have no shortage of top riders interested in joining the squad.

Valentine has made no secret of his desire to retain the services of American John Hopkins, who has turned his career around dramatically with the team this year and has years of world championship experience.

Leon Camier is also being strongly linked with the British team. The former BSB champion has spent the last two seasons with the factory Alitalia Aprilia team in WSB. Despite securing a total of seven podiums and seventh in the overall standings this year, he has been unable to deliver the consistency and results he or the team expected. But a closer look at his performances, especially in the second half of the races, gives a clear indication of his potential to be a genuine title contender.

Another linked to the ride is newly crowned BSB champion, Tommy Hill. Hill rode for the team in 2010 and showed his pedigree by beating Hopkins to the title this season, riding a Swan Yamaha. He also has a point to prove in WSB after suffering a torrid time when he raced an Althea Honda in 2009.

An announcement on the team’s future is expected tomorrow, although there may still be some time before the rider-line-up is confirmed. (Michael Guy -World Superbikes)

Davies confirmed to ride ParkinGO Ducati in 2012

As reported in MCN last week, Chaz Davies will be graduating to WSB in 2012 onboard a Ducati with his current ParkinGO squad.

The six time WSS race winner and 2011 World Supersport champion is set to get a factory supported bike with engineers and will go head to head with the likes of Biaggi, Melandri, Checa along with his fellow countrymen Rea, Haslam, Sykes and Camier in 2012.

He said: “I’m really excited. The package I have ticks all the boxes. I don’t know how I will go in WSB but the Ducati is a proven winning bike and I can’t wait to test it and race it next year.”

Stoner Edges Spies in Thrilling Season Finale

Valencia, Spain - Australian world champion Casey Stoner won the last race of the season the Valencia MotoGp here on Sunday edging Ben Spies on the line.

Stoner — winning his 10th race of the season — had led for most of the 30-lap race before Spies took the lead with three laps remaining.

However, Stoner showed his battling qualities and regained the lead on the line to deny the American his second win of the campaign in the first race since the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli in Malaysia a fortnight ago.

“We made a huge charge at the end,” said Spies, who won at Assen earlier in the season.

“But once we got ahead the track was really slick and we took it more carefully so as to avoid making mistakes.

“Casey took a couple of risks towards the end and they paid off.”

Italian Andrea Dovizioso took third spot and ensured he finished third in the overall standings on his farewell from the Honda team.

“I could have taken some risks towards the end of the race, but third in the championships was too important for me,” said Dovizioso, who joins Yamaha next season.

“I am really pleased to have finished third in the championship and it was thanks to my strategy here that we beat Dani [Pedrosa] because without one we could not have beaten him.”

Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo of Spain, the 2010 champion who missed the race as he recovers from finger surgery after crashing in the Australian GP warm-up at Phillip Island, finished second overall.

The whole complexion of the race was turned on its head right at the start with four riders going out.

Valentino Rossi — who was wearing a special helmet in tribute to Simoncelli — his Ducati team-mate Nicky Hayden and Randy de Puniet went out after Alvaro Bautista clipped the back of Dovizioso’s Honda.

Bautista then slid along the track and took the other three riders out.

“Bautista told me that Dovizioso came over on him and he couldn’t do anything about it,” said Hayden.

“It is a sad way to end the season as we all really wanted to race and we thought we could put up a good fight today.

“I am pretty frustrated at same time, big let down for not just me but everyone.

“It’s been a tough season and it ended sourly.”

Bautista for his part confirmed that Dovizioso had given him no room to maneuver.

“It was a shame that happened but I had no option, no space to adjust my position. Thankfully nobody was harmed,” he said.

Dovizioso had to keep Pedrosa in his sights as they battled for the third-placed overall finish.

The Honda duo and Spies engaged in a terrific battle for the podium placings, as Stoner established a clear lead, and the trio shadowed each other throughout proceedings.

Spies, who has had a mixed season with several non-finishes, split the Honda team-mates up with seven laps to go to give Dovizioso some breathing space and then ate huge chunks out of Stoner’s lead as the rain came pouring down.

Incredibly, Stoner went wide on a corner with three laps to go and that allowed Spies to ease through on the inside but the Australian refused to let the rain ruin his day and he produced the stunning finish to give himself the perfect finish to the season.

Behind the leaders veteran Italian Loris Capirossi rode a steady race in what was his final appearance on the circuit as the three-time world champion — twice in the 125cc category in 1990/91 and the 250cc in 1998 — cantered along to finish in mid-division.

Button Leads Close Race For 2nd Place Behind Vettel

Abu Dhabi - With Sebastian Vettel already crowned Formula One world champion, Jenson Button is looking to strengthen his grip on second place at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Button leads a group of four drivers fighting for the runner-up spot with two races remaining. The McLaren driver holds a 13-point lead over Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. Red Bull’s Mark Webber is 19 points back and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton 38 points adrift.

While Button would rather be challenging for the championship, he said finishing ahead of several other former champions would still be “good end to a positive” season.

“When you have won a world championship, nothing else will do except for winning,” said Button, who won the 2009 title. “But also to finish in front of Red Bull and Fernando in a Ferrari ... and also Lewis, it would be something you would fight for, definitely, rather than settling and not really giving it your all.”

The 31-year-old Briton has won three races this year, compared to two for Hamilton and one for Alonso — the only drivers other than Vettel to finish first this season.

He has also been more consistent than his teammate Hamilton. Button said much of his success came down to improving the reliability of his car.

Alonso, a two-time champion, is also gunning for second but said he mainly wanted to finish strong for the sake of his team, not himself. Last year, Alonso came into Abu Dhabi as the points leader and with a chance to clinch the title but lost the championship to Vettel after he finished seventh.

“It’s better second than fourth or fifth. But we are competitive people. We like to win, and when we cannot arrive first it’s not the same,” Alonso said.

Despite being in the hunt for second, Alonso couldn’t hide his disappointment on Thursday about a season in which aerodynamics problems have let the Red Bull cars of Vettel and Webber gain a crucial edge. The team has won one race and endured a series of uncharacteristic management changes.

“It is not a disaster, but for sure when you race for Ferrari there are a lot of expectations,” Alonso said.

Hamilton was even harder on himself, brushing aside trying to finish second as almost pointless. He described his year as “a couple of so-so races, but the rest have been fairly disappointing.”

Shooting team adds one bronze on last day of competition

Indonesia's shooters brought home another bronze medal on the last day of the shooting competition at the ongoing 26th SEA Games on Wednesday, this time in the mens 10-meter running target.

The bronze was grabbed by Masruri, who scored a total of 543, falling behind Vietnamese Huu Vuong Ngo who scored 556 and won gold, and Duc Hung Do who scored 550 and took the silver.

Indonesian hopeful Anang Yulianto, who already got one gold medal in the mens individual 25-meter standard last week, failed to grab any medals in the mens 25-meter center fire pistol.

The competition was dominated by Vietnamese shooters Xuan Vinh Hoang, who took the gold and Minh Thanh Ha who got bronze. The silver medal went to Thai shooter Panichpatikum Jakkrit.

Anang said he had been unable to practice as much as he would have liked.

“We only got bullets for this competition a month beforehand,” he said.

Indonesian shooting team manager Robby Atmadja admitted that his team had faced difficulties in providing the athletes with 0.32 caliber bullets used in the center fire pistol competition.

“We only got a permit to [import] the bullets a month a go,” he said.

Jonas quick off the mark in vital Champions League win for Valencia

Madrid - Valencia striker Jonas Goncalvez scored the fastest goal in the history of the Champions League to give his side a lifeline in the competition as they defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 in the Mestalla stadium on Tuesday night.

Jonas needed just nine seconds to open the scoring against the Germans in what was a must win game for Valencia, who went into the game with just two points from their three previous matches and with a four-point disadvantage in the group that also includes Bayer.

Anything other than a win was simply not enough for Valencia and Jonas' goal got them off to a perfect start against a side that had defeated them 2-1 just a fortnight earlier.

Bayer reached after that early shock and they drew level and Stefan Kiessling equalized after 31 minutes as he headed home a pinpoint cross from veteran midfielder Michael Ballack.

That goal caused problems for Valencia as their fans had begun to get nervous before Roberto Soldado put the home side back in front. The supporters had begun to whistle their side and there was audible criticism of coach Unai Emery for his decision to replace Sophiane Feghouli with Pablo Piatti just before the hour.

Central defender Adil Rami assured the win with a powerful header with 15 minutes remaining and although it was not a vintage display from the home side, it was enough to give them a win and the chance to make it into the last 16 of the competition.

The win did come at a price, however, Valencia's influential midfielder ever Banega was carried off the pitch on a stretcher after just 24 minutes of the game. The Argentinean fell badly and looked to have seriously hurt himself and was in tears as he left the pitch to be replaced by Tino Costa.

Kevin Schwantz to lead Simoncelli lap of honour

The MotoGP community has been paying tribute to Marco Simoncelli throughout this weekend's Valencia season finale - and race day morning will see a further special tribute to the former 250cc world champion.

At 10.10am local time on Sunday, riders from all three World Championship classes have been invited to depart from Pit Lane as a group, and complete a lap of the track in honour of Simoncelli.

The procession will be led by Simoncelli's San Carlo Honda Gresini RC212V MotoGP bike, which will be ridden by 1993 world champion Kevin Schwantz, a friend of the late Italian.

The riders will stop just short of the finish line, with local authorities and representatives of MotoGP's governing bodies (Dorna, IRTA and the FIM) congregating on the other side of the finish line alongside Simoncelli's family and members of the Gresini team.

Paddock members will also be present on track.

Once the bikes have taken up their positions on the start/finish straight a two-minute Valencian Mascletà (a traditional firecracker display) will take place.

Capirossi: Now I’m retired!

Loris Capirossi bid farewell to the grand prix paddock he has called his home for the last 20 years with a steady run to ninth position in the Valencia Grand Prix.

His 328th and final race, though Capirossi's concluding season in the top flight aboard the Pramac Ducati has been a struggle at times, he fittingly appeared on course for his best finish of the year by getting as high as seventh around the Spanish circuit.

However, the arrival of rain in the closing stages would prompt the MotoGP veteran to back off, Capirossi favouring caution in an effort to finish his final race and to also ensure he brought the Ducati – adorned with Marco Simoncelli's number 58 – home to the chequered flag.

Crossing the line ninth – which remains his equal-best finish of the season -, he paid tribute to those that have supported him over the last two decades.

"What can I say, now it's really finished. The race was complicated by the rain, and in the last laps I couldn't push because I risked crashing. I wanted to end my career in a good way honoring Marco. I gave my best. Thanks to all the people that have supported me. Now I'm retired!"

Alvaro Bautista joins Honda Gresini

Following this morning's announcement that Alvaro Bautista had left Suzuki, the Spaniard has now been confirmed as a Honda Gresini MotoGP rider for 2012.

Bautista, a best of fifth during two injured interrupted seasons at Suzuki, will ride a 1000cc RC213V for the satellite Honda team.

However, it is not clear if it will be the full factory bike that had been assigned to Marco Simoncelli.

Bautista, a former 125cc world champion who battled with Simoncelli for the 250cc title, is making his Honda MotoGP debut on Hiroshi Aoyama's 800cc bike during Wednesday's second and final day of testing at Valencia.

"I am particularly satisfied that Alvaro Bautista will ride a Honda RC213V in the colours of Team San Carlo Honda Gresini next year," said team principal Fausto Gresini. "He is a very fast rider and I also hold him in high regard for his personality and pleasant nature. I am sure that he will integrate swiftly into our group and that we will enjoy some pleasant experiences together in the future."

There is no news on whether Gresini will be able to continue as a two-bike team, but Italian Moto2 race winner Andrea Iannone has also been linked to the Gresini team.

Confirmed 2012 MotoGP riders:

1. Casey Stoner - Repsol Honda
2. Dani Pedrosa - Repsol Honda

TestDisk 6.12

TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery utility. TestDisk was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing your Partition Table).

TestDisk is a free and useful program which queries the BIOS ( DOS/Win9x) or the OS ( Linux, FreeBSD) in order to find the Hard Disks and their characteristics ( LBA size and CHS geometry). TestDisk does a quick check of your disk´s structure and compares it with your Partition Table for entry errors. If the Partition Table has entry errors, TestDisk can repair them. If you have missing partitions or a completely empty Partition Table, TestDisk can search for partitions and create a new Table or even a new MBR if necessary.

However, it´s up to the user to look over the list of possible partitions found by TestDisk and to select the one(s) which were being used just before the drive failed to boot or the partition(s) were lost. In some cases, especially after initiating a detailed search for lost partitions, TestDisk may show partition data which is simply from the remnants of a partition that had been deleted and overwritten long ago.

TestDisk has features for both novices and experts. For those who know little or nothing about data recovery techniques, the command line parameters /log and /debug can be used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive which can then be sent to a tech for further analysis. Those more familiar with such procedures should find TestDisk a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.

TestDisk can find lost partitions for all of these file systems:

BeFS ( BeOS )
BSD disklabel ( FreeBSD/OpenBSD/NetBSD )
CramFS, Compressed File System
DOS/Windows FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32
HFS and HFS+, Hierarchical File System
JFS, IBM´s Journaled File System
Linux Ext2 and Ext3
Linux Raid
RAID 1: mirroring
RAID 4: striped array with parity device
RAID 5: striped array with distributed parity information
RAID 6: striped array with distributed dual redundancy information
Linux Swap (versions 1 and 2)
LVM and LVM2, Linux Logical Volume Manager
Mac partition map
Novell Storage Services NSS
NTFS ( Windows NT/2K/XP/2003 )
ReiserFS 3.5, 3.6 and 4
Sun Solaris i386 disklabel
Unix File System UFS and UFS2 (Sun/BSD/…)
XFS, SGI´s Journaled File System

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost pictures (Photo Recovery) from digital camera memory and lost files including video, documents and archives from Hard Disks and CDRom. PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so it´ll work even if your media´s filesystem is severely damaged or formatted. PhotoRec is safe to use, it will never attempt to write to the drive or memory support you are about to recover from. Recovered files are instead written in the directory from where you are running the PhotoRec program.

PhotoRec is free, this open source multi-platform application is distributed under GNU Public License. PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk and is included in the download.

Ferguson marks silver anniversary at Old Trafford

London: The mood was not one of sentimentality as Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his 25th anniversary at Old Trafford. It was the quest for redemption weighing most heavily on his brow. Ferguson chose not to view his own stadium as the scene of so many well-remembered triumphs. He sounded more like a member of the emergency services leading his team back to the scene of a trauma.

The most damning reminder of their first home appearance since the 6-1 dismantling by Manchester City was delivered by Ferguson in his uncompromising programme notes.

"It's painful even to think about it, but I don't want the players to forget it totally because it must serve as a reminder of the necessity of keeping our concentration levels high," Ferguson wrote.

"The score against us only reached such high proportions because of our own stupidity. It was a recipe for disaster and we contributed to our own downfall. City didn't even have to work for their last three goals, but the fact is that we were left with an embarrassing scoreline, the butt of many a joke I know."

It is typical of Ferguson that the only history he wanted to reflect upon ahead of the arrival of Otelul Galati was current and painful. If nostalgia is the neurotic inability to deal with the present, Ferguson continues to ooze the confidence of a man who is looking only to the future.

When asked about his latest milestone, Ferguson was dismissive. He is more interested in making amends for recent failure than discussing the artefacts of two decades of success. "I've not reflected on it but I'm looking forward to the next 25 years," was the somewhat curt response to a question about his latest milestone.

It is Ferguson's refusal to reflect on his own triumphs which gives him the authority to cast aside those who've served him well.

Players such as Rio Ferdinand know what lies ahead. There was a brutality about Ferguson's pre-match assessment of Ferdinand's dwindling powers which explains why and how he keeps the United juggernaut rolling. There is nothing revolutionary about how Ferguson does it. He captures the best young players with the skill of Robert Helpmann. (Chris Bascombe)

UAE senior football team start training camp

Dubai: The UAE senior national football team start their domestic training camp in Dubai Friday ahead of their return match against South Korea in the Asian qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup on Friday, November 11.
The UAE, led by local head coach Dr. Abdulla Misfir, has almost lost all hope of reaching the final stage of the qualifiers as they have lost their first three matches in a group that also features Kuwait and Lebanon.

South Korea leads with seven points, followed by Kuwait with five and Lebanon on four.

Honour
"We have no real hope of featuring in the finals of the World Cup but we will do our best to honour our country and its game," Misfir told Gulf News.

Misfir was appointed after the UAE FA sacked Slovenian Srecko Katanec after the team lost 3-1 to Lebanon and led them against South Korea in Seoul last month, when they played their best match in the qualifiers but went down 2-1.

"We have to be at our best to achieve a positive result against the Koreans, who are one of the best and strongest teams in Asia. I have great confidence in the fighting spirits of my players and their determination not to lose at home," Misfir added.

The team will train at the Al Ahli club's Rashid Stadium, the venue of the match, while the South Koreans are expected to arrive in Dubai today, Friday to start their preparations for the match.

Debutants
Misfir has added debutants Abdulla Qasim, the wingback of Al Jazira, and Eissa Obaid, the striker of Al Shabab, to his squad after their brilliant performances for their club teams in the etisalat Pro League this season.

The full list of players includes: Majed Nasir, Al Wasl. Khalid Eissa, Abdulla Mousa, Khalid Sabeel, Subait Khater, Abdulla Qasim and Jumaa Abdulla from Al Jazira. Yousuf Al Zaabi, Ahmad Khalil, Amer Mubarak and Esmail Al Hammadi, from Al Ahli. Frais Jumaa, Ali Al Waheebi and Abdul Aziz Fayez, from Al Ain.

Hamdan Al Kamali, Basheer Saeed, Eissa Ahmad, Khalid Jalal, Mohammad Al Shehhi and Esmail Matar, from Al Wahda. Waleed Abbass, Mohammad Ahmad and Eissa Obaid from Al Shabab. Yuouf Jaber and Mohammad Fawzi from Bani Yas and Ali Abbass from Al Nasr. (Yasir Abbasher)

A double whammy for Aamer

By Scyld Berry

London: Mohammad Aamer is the youngest bowler to have taken 50 Test wickets. He is also the youngest to have been banned from all cricket for five years and to have pleaded guilty to corruption in a court of law.
It is a double tragedy for the youth and his sport. And the stigma will remain: Mohammad Aamer fixed. And maybe the cricket world should not feel compassionate but, rather, that the ban and the sentence — six months in a young offenders' institution — are right. Aamer pleaded guilty only to the deliberate no-balls at Lord's, but the court was told of his direct contact with an illegal bookmaker in Pakistan about doing a spot-fix in the Oval Test; and of a plea he made to the bookmaker to delete his text messages. There was also the strange case of the Asia Cup. Aamer was spotted by television, when waiting to bat in Dambulla, holding his batting glove to his ear. The ICC said there was no evidence Aamer was talking on a mobile outside his helmet, but a former Pakistan Test player was told by one of Aamer's teammates the mobile was inside his helmet.

Nevertheless, as a cricketer, Aamer will be, and is, being missed. So few are the quality bowlers worldwide, that he must have been contesting the number one spot now with Dale Steyn, James Anderson and Graeme Swann. Last summer against Australia at Headingley, Aamer gave a brilliant exhibition of conventional left-arm swing. He took seven wickets for only 106 runs; he gave his flooded and war-torn country hope.

Against England at the Oval he gave a brilliant exhibition of reverse-swing.

Nadir and zenith
One moment England were 194 for four, the next 222 all out, as Aamer (five for 52) had a magic spell worthy of his mentor Wasim Akram. Another victory, further hope. He was even more magical in the next Test, the fateful Test, at Lord's.

It was to be his final game for a long while, aside from a club game in Surrey when Aamer breached his ban unwittingly. And it saw both his nadir and zenith. As he himself has admitted, Aamer bowled the two no-balls to order at Lord's and was guilty of spot-fixing.

Yet he also found time to run in from the Pavilion End and rip through England even more incisively than against Australia. Aamer took four wickets for no run, and not just any four wickets; Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood and Eoin Morgan. Of left-arm pace bowlers, only Sir Garfield Sobers, Alan Davidson, Akram and Zaheer Khan have bowled such a spell in Test cricket. Such is the rate at which international cricket moves, it is not certain Aamer will return to the Pakistan team when his ICC ban expires in 2015, although he will be 23 officially. Until 2015 Aamer will have to bat and bowl in the nets. Only then will the world's most gifted young all-rounder be able to carry on where he left off.
