Nicky Hayden shown determination to leave Honda on high note, setting fastest times of the both free practice sessions that took place in rainy conditions in Valencia. Dani Pedrosa, who was not known as best rider in the rain, managed to set second time of the day, just 0.087 seconds of the time of his team-mate. Jorge Lorenzo, featuring special livery for Valencia race, managed to set third time of the day.
Valentino Rossi, who suffered lowside in FP2, managed to set 4th time of the day on his second bike. Casey Stoner also suffered crash in FP1 and set 5th time, in front of the Andrea Dovizioso. Randy De Puniet set 7th time, in front of Sylvain Guintoli who returned to top 10 before leaving MotoGP next season. Colin Edwards was 9th fastest, while Shinya Nakano completed top 10 fastest riders on day 1 in Valencia.
