Inzaghi wary of Chelsea threat

Beware of Chelsea in the Champions League – that’s the cry from Milan hotshot Filippo Inzaghi after Europe’s premier competition kicked off this week.

Although Super Pippo admits that reigning champions Barcelona will be hard to beat, he feels the London club will be contenders for the ultimate prize.

“Barcelona remain the favourites for me, but I think we’ll have to pay attention to Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea,” said the veteran.

Inzaghi knows Ancelotti well having been bossed by the tactician at both Juventus and Milan in the past.

The Rossoneri themselves opened their European account with a 2-1 win at Marseille thanks to a double from the Peter Pan of Calcio.

“It is a peculiar tournament,” added Inzaghi. “We won the first game, but we are now obliged to win the second before the two massive encounters against Real Madrid.

“It’s great for me to score for Milan in Europe though.

“It’s very satisfying because players like George Weah, Marco Van Basten and Andriy Shevchenko have played for this team. To be ahead of them is an honour.”

The San Siro giants were desperate for victory on Tuesday after a mixed start to the Serie A campaign at home.

“Milan shouldn’t start making plans for a project, we just need to live one day at a time and grow,” he urged.

“We started the season well [with a win at Siena], but then we lost badly in the derby [4-0 to Inter] and then didn’t play brilliantly at Livorno [0-0].

“We’ve now picked ourselves up again, but we need to be more consistent.”

Milan face Bologna at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday.
