Seb itens to be auctioned in Portugal

The GP2 Series is drawing to a close and will celebrate with its new Champion this weekend in Portugal, where the last round of the 2009 season will take place at the Autodromo Internacionale do Algarve. On Sunday evening, the traditional Prize Giving Ceremony will not only honour all the protagonists of the fifth season of the Series, but will also feature our now customary charity auction.

This year, the GP2 Series has chosen to support and help develop St Mary’s Primary School in Seeta Nazigo, Uganda. Although attendance at a primary school is mandatory in this country, a large number of children still cannot afford to pay for the school fee. Learning English and getting an education offer a significant advantage in Ugandan society, and going to school helps to secure a child’s future.

Built a few years ago, the school building is no longer big enough to welcome all the potential pupils, aged from five to sixteen years old. Thanks to GP2 Series’ donations, a new classroom block - including teachers’ housing and a kitchen shed – will be erected. Further funds will also be used to purchase books and furniture, along with repairing and maintaining the existing block.

The auction will be held on Sunday evening alongside the prize giving ceremony, with many items donated by Formula One drivers such as double World Champion Fernando Alonso, the first ever GP2 champion Nico Rosberg (thanks to Bridgestone’s contribution), Red Bull Racing drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, and ING Renault F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean.
